Yet many people beem to be keyed up to such a pitch, that they could not be happy unless they were doing a certain amount of rushing. They would ) draw bianka. stagnate if forced to live in a quiet and peaceful little community. They say it is better to wear out than to rust out. The Irishman who uttered the famous phrase, "If you can't be aisy, be as aisy as you can," summed up the true philosophy. People must fol low their own bent to an extent, and as the majority of Ameri cans are nervous and energetic, they will continue to hustle to the end of their days. Dut they can cure the tendency to too much hustle by cultivating the deeper enjoyments. People who have learned to enjoy pleasures Ifite good books and music and friend ship, find that the best aims of life are not dependent on money, but can be attained without large cost of effort. o " There will be nationwide interest in the effort the new mayor of Philadelphia is making to clean the town of vice and enforce the laws. Such a movement may encounter difficulties, yet it is the only consistent position. Municipal officials claim in some places that the public will not back up such a movement, that peo ple whose customary habits have been interfered with will revolt against enforced virtue. But they sometimes overlook a vast un rtone of sentiment that wants clean living and believes that merican institutions are founded on laws and that these must be maintained.
