Marks to repair the buildings directly north of the Lib erty theater, which were damaged by Are a few days ago. At the former fire In these buildings the commis sioners endeavored to force demo lition of the structures, but because of a weakness In the ordinance the owner succeeded In having them re paired. The commissioners then re quested a new ordinance, but up to the present time It has not been drafted and presented to the coun cil and consequently the commis sioners must be guided by the old regulations. These provide that a building may be repaired unless damaged 40 per cent or more. Contractors who have investigated the buildings where the fire occurred stated that the dam age amounted to 32 or 35 percent and consequently the commUslonoH have no alternative but to allow re pairs to be made.
