I nee by your Issue of Nov. r.th. the business element has a brilliant champion In the person of one 1 1 :i y Ward. I IhoiiKlit Kay was going to develop Into something !lt;e that, judging from hi manner when h was acting as call boy nt the H. V Hound house beforo t he coin pan v severed l'.s connection with htm. I don't think there aro mnnv people lhat will deny that the air plane Idea la an advertising feature even atnoi'K Its staunchest supporters. The News Kovlew condnrted an air plane essay contest recently, nnd the first prize essay declared: "There nln't no uhp dlsguisln', Kosnbur's hit:f.OKt nlr plnno asset's, nlrplane advertising." I guess I didnt innke nnv mlstnke when I called It a mammoth adver tising scheme and a mighty expen sive one, loo. Kveryone knows that . the $7, (MM) Is merely the opening wedge, and there would .be ninny thousand morn for grading, smooth ing, Kiavcling and building hangarx ami a constant upkeep expense, nnd what returns? Nothing for anybody, only a little more trndo for the' tradesmen, and something to add to advertising literature for the lernl haniber of Commerce to send to all parts of the earth urging people to locate nt Hosehun. Tho hi Idea Is to gel the people, get tho money, and see them go. I am not nghinst air planes. I have watched the growth and develup ment of ihe atr piano from the time It slatted and am certainly glad lo r-eo It, hut 1 say IT you want an nir plane, buy It yourself and furnish your own landing place. Air planes are indispensabln In times of war, but we have al. adv spent minimis for airplanes and In aviation fields which seems ample. Now, Kay, you want to know where we wage earners would be In caso the Japs should invado this country, liont vou worry your pr-Mty head about where the wage earners would bo.
