Supplement to EVENING ROSEBURG REVIEW DECEMBER 31, 1HOU, "EVKHYHODY'S" FLAG ON I.VSllM.ENT MAST. Everybody's Magazine, as Its read ers know, Is In no sense a partisan publication. l!u: partisanship Is ... not involved In the Insureent movi- djiient. Representative government is . at slake. For this controlling ren-j . son, Everbady's does indorse, wlth-l out qualification, the noble stand j taken by the Insurgents o the House and Senate. These men ban.' risen above party. They have faith fully and couraK.'ously represented the people at large in Congress. The re-election of Ueveridge, Clapp, and I.a Follette Is of natiunnl moment. For these men not noly represeut the ieople of their respec tive states; thoy are senators of the whole people. In the House, every Insurgent who 0 voted against the Cannon rule should be loyally and enthusiastically sup ported, together with every follower of Champ Clark who stuck by his party. Retribution should be meted out to the Democrats who turned traitor. And before the primaries at least before the Congressional election every candidate should be compelled to give a pledge that he will vote against Cannon for Speaker, and vote for a change in the rules which Aill take away the Speaker s power to appoint committees, substituting therefor the naming of committees by a non-partlBan committee of the A whole House: thus terminating that ' un-American official's domination of the Committee on Rules. Get that pledge from your Con gressman. Get a pledge that will bind his action', not alone In the party caucus, but, far more luipor-1 tant, on the floor of the House. Better get the pledge In writing. ' Editor's Note In January livery-1 body's. , Plans for a national Audubon unl-1 versity on the University Settlement plan, to be endowed with $1.(100. ut"i, have been announced in New ' York. Rased on the known annual itlp loss of $1,000,000,000. due lo tlr bpreadlng pests that the insect-i-u itig birds deuroy, (he calculations of the National Association of Audtl b'. .i Societies, which is back of this project, shows that the teaching of bird value from such an Institution must result In wiping out at least one per cent of the huge national penalty .for popular lack of knowl edge on this subject. For every hundred thousand dollars put into this work of economic educulion a million Is sure to be saved to the ag rl ulturul Interests of the whole peo ple. Successful agriculture means general prosperity, and thus every merchant, manufacturer and business man of any sort is vitally InteresteJ and should bear his part In the plan to educate the public In the great economic principles of bird conser vation. o The best box confectionery, "Ixw- ney's," fresh at Roseburg Book Store.
