Young as postmaster at Portland, wheh was sent to the senate today, Is obnoxious to the people of that city, Senator Fulton will protest against his con firmation and fight the nomination as long as he remains in Washington. Already Mr.-Fulton has tied up the nomination in the postofiice commit tee, bo that it will not be reported until he says the word. Discussing the appointment tonight. Senator Fulton said: 'I may be mistaken, but In my Judgment Young's nomination will not have the approval of Portland's best citizens. If it shall, they have but to notify me and 1 will withdraw my opposition to his Tonflruiitflon. I have never understood that Young was either a resident of Portland or Republican, but possibly nowadays neither Is material. If citizens ot Portland are. as 1 believe they will be, outraged by this nomination, they should so advise me at once and In that case I promise them that, so long as I am here, the nomination will not be confirmed, if I can pre vent It. It may be that I wholly mis understand public sentiment in Ore gon, snd that freaks and freakism dominates the situation; but I was once in Missouri." Mr. Fulton added that Mr. Young's appointment Is personally obnoxious to him, not only because he belleveB Mr. Young to be a Populist and a resident ot Baker City, but because in a letter published in the Oregonlan of May 9, Mr. Young viciously as sailed W. H. Taft, then the leading candidate for the Republican nomination. PORTLAND, Or., Dec. 8. Mr. Young has been Senator Bourne's private secretary since Bourne was elected by the legislature, 23 months ago, and has had his eye on the post mastership, which carries $6000 a year salary, for some time. H1b chief rival for the place has been John W. Mlnto, whose commission expired today. Minto depended prin cipally on the influence of a petition, signed by local business firms, and upon such assistance as could be ob tained from the delegation, which, aside from' Bourne, consists ot United States Senator Charles W. Fulton and Representatives Ellis and Haw ley. The appointment of postmaster in Portland, however, 1b exclusively within the gift ot Bourne, it being senatorial courtesy to permit senators to name the postmaster In their home town. , Medicine That Is Medicine. CURES BLOOD POISON No case of contagious blood poison is ever cured until the last particle of the virus has been removed from the circulation. The least taint left in the blood will sooner or later, cause a fresh outbreak of the trouble, with all its hideous and destructive symptoms of ulcerated mouth and throat, copper colored splotches, falling hair, sores and ulcers, etc No other medicine so surely cures contagious blood poison as S. S. S. It goes down into the blood and steadily and surely drives out every particle of the infection. It absolutely and perfectly purifies the blood, and leaves this vital fluid as fresh, rich and healthy as it was before the destructive virus of contagious blood poison entered the circulation. S. S. S. quickly takes effect on the blood, and gradually the symptoms disappear, the health is improved, the skin clean. J of all spots, sores and other blemishes, the hair stops coming out, the mouth and throat heal and when S. S. S. has cleansed the system of the poison ho trace of the disease is left S. S. S. cures contagious blood poison because it is the greatest of all blood purifiers, tested and proven for more than forty years.
