Htate bf 19,220 I'luralltjr. Portland Oregonlan, Oct. 19: Ras ed on Impartial estimates furnished by correspondents of The Oregonlan from every county In the state, with the exception of Klamath and Lake, Taft will bave a plurality In Oregon of 19,220. It is likely to be more rather than less. The estimated vote In the two Southern Oregon counties was made on the basis of the vote for Congressman last June. Taft's estimated plurality In Mult nomah county is given as 7500, while It Is predicted he will have a lead over riryan of 11,720 in the 33 other counties of the state. Ilryan's vote In the state will be Increased slightly by the return to the party of thOBe democrats who voted for Roosevelt .four years ago In preference to Judge Alton H. Parker. He also will bave the sup port this year of a great many demo crats who remained at home In 1K(H and did not vote at all. These ad ditions will bave the effect of In creasing the democratic vote of Ore gon without detracting greatly from the normal republican vote of the state, which will be polled by Taft. Union Vote for Neliroxkan. The only reported defection from .tbe republican ranks In this state is that of the men of the labor unions who are openly supporting the No braakan. However, it Ib generally known that fully 60 per cent of the trades unionists In this city who are taking a hand In politics, are demo crats, so that their suport of Bryan In the coming election will not heav ily diminish the republican vote. In 1904 the Socialists polled 7019 votes In the state. It Is generally admitted that they will poll a heaviei vote next month, possibly aggregat ing 10,000. This Increased vote will be taken almost entirely from the democratic ranks. At the same time reports from the outlying countltm of the state are to the effect that In consequence of the vigorous local op tion campaign in this state last spring, followed by the visit hero of the Prohibition nomlneo during the campaign, the cold water party nlso will Increase Its vote which in 1904 was 2806. It will draw any Increase In Its vote undoubtedly from the re publicans so that If the Increase In the vote of the Socialist and Prohibi tion parties Is substantially the same, the vote of the two old parties will he decreased proportionately and neither will have the advantage. From the reports received by The Oregonlan, linker Is the only county that probably will go for Hryan m trough tho estimates appear to In citrate that the result will be clone In Linn and possibly Jcisophlnc and Umatilla. All of tho other counties , are expected to poll tho normal ru- niibllcan voto. Douglas County's plurality for Taft la estimated at 200. MOIIK I'llODUCTS NKKDICI). The Hood Itlver apple show Is the "finest ever." There are those who think this Judgment will bo revised when the Willamette Valley apple growers put up their exhibit. Lot the good work go on. Competition In this line cannot be too sharp. The world's markets are waiting tn be supplied with Oregon apples, and all want the best. In tho Judgment of the Oregonlan, the apples rnlsed by careful, consolonllous orrhardlsta, wholher of Hood Itlver. tho Willam ette Valley or I'nuipua Vnlley, or Rogue Itlver Vnlley. are equally good, which Is to say that they all are the best on earlh In alio, color, flnvor and keeping qualities. It is easy to believe that the Judges nt the Hood River fair had great difficulty In awarding prises for the best, In a ills nlay where there was no mediocrity Imagine their plight hnd It been a slate applo show, instenu ot an ex hlblt ot the best of one section only. With butter selling at 85 cents and eggs at 45 cents and winter not yat begun, and with eastern storage butter and eastern eggs being l in norted In large ciuantltles, It Is sp parent thai the dairying and poultry business in this state has not yet been overdono. As a matter of fact the shortage In native stork of these most necessary commodities has been In evidence for more than 20 years Despite the remunerative figures at which they are selling, it seems mi possible to induce an expansion In the Industry In keeping with the In creased demand. The butter and egg business may cost a little more trouble than the growing ot wnesi but eventually It Is destined to lie come one of tho hlg wealth produc ing factors of the State. Potter, In charge of grazing In National for est a, have announced a reduction of 10 to 15 per cent fn rates for sheep grazing on the national forests to take effect for the coming season. The new schedule does not affect the cases where the minimum charge f 5 cents a head has already been allowed, or an especially low rate has been fixed on account of some local conditions. In most cases the re vised fee will mean a reduction of ntiout 1 cent a head. In fixing rates for grazing different kinds of stock, local conditions, the effect of grazing by different kinds of stock on forest growth, the demand for the use of iho range by the owners of stock, the needs of the homesteader, and tbe profits of business have all been taken Into consideration. The maximum penalty for manslaughter Is Imprisonment In the state peniten tiary for 15 years. Neither the prosecution nor the defense nor the prisoner himself Is satisfied with the verdict, which is recognized as a compromise. The Jurors before filing Into the court room evidently had pledged them selves to secrecy as to the result of their bnlloting before the final ver dict was reached.
