A prominent dairyoiau says: We bare yet lo meet the man who has tried a good kind of covered milk pall and who likes clean milk Mho has not thought tbetn a grunt Improvement over the ordinary open pall. Vet our observa tions on their use la to the effect that not more than eight cow owners out of ten use them. It would certainly be a good bablt for everybody to get Into to use no other klud. It goes without saying that a closed pall will greatly reduce the Impurity of ordinary milk, since tbe open pall catcbes everything descending from tJHCOVKHZD AND COTKItKD MIMC PAILS. above. Experiments have plainly brought out the advantage of covered milk pails, and. while they require somewhat more work of the person who washes the dairy uteuHils, no one who Is Interested In pure milk could consider this an argument of more thau featherweight description. A good kind of pull Is one In which the top fits on as a cover and the milk opening Is cov ered with screening or Is fitted with, n hoop so thnt cheesecloth can be used for thnt purpose. There Is little diffi culty In thoroughly cleansing such a pattern of pall. The closed pall Is a subject which It would seem local creameries could agi tate with direct benefit to themselves. In a way much of the advice offered to the fanners In the interests of puror milk Is wnsted since It Is Impracticable, but the covered milk pall Is thoroughly practicable. A cow Is much less apt to step into It, files are excluded and sols dependence Is not placed on the sepa rator for taking out undesirable solids. I'sll No. 1 in the Illustration, from Clarence It. I-ane's bulletin. Is an ordi nary oiwn one. with no provision for keeping out the dust and dirt. He says It should never he used In any dairy. rail No. 2 is ii good sanitary one, with small top provided with n metal strain er. In certllled dairies probably better results would be secured by leaving out the strainer. The pall would be Im proved If stamped from one piece of tin. Last week one of the ablest and best liked Republican members of congress, J. Adam Bede, of the Eighth Minnesota district, was defeated for renomiuatlon by members of his own party became he declared himself un flinchingly In favor of the re-election as speaker of Joe Cannon. This seems to be a fair Indication of Republican sentiment concerning the ciar of the lower house of congress. Collier's Weekly, which bo far as it has any policy, is certainly friendly to tbe Re publican parry, denounces Cauuou un reservedly, nnd last week printed communication In which It was said that if Taft aud Sherman were elected the long arm of the speaker would reach from the house e-! of the cspl- tol to tbe senate and make tbe puppet Biierinun do the bidding of the auto crat in the speaker's ohnir. President Roosevelt. In 1891, Bald of Lnnuon: "We cnuuot escape from the ract mat it was no credit to the Re publican party of the houBe that Mr. Camion of Illinois should be one of Its lenders." Cannon then was tem porarily out of olHce. the ouly time he has been out of office In tnlrty- nve years. Among all the prominent Republicans there is none upon wliom the country looks with so much hesi tancy nnd doubt His face Is always set against nuy measure for tbe good of tbe iwople. his power Is luvnrlubly exerted for those measures that are demanded by the great interests. nether as a result of tills attitude ur not. the fact remains that after thirty-nve years ot- offlceholdlng, with 'inly a moderate salary most of the time, "I m.-le Joe" has grown rich, his weuitn increasing ns his power In creased. lie is emphatically an Issue in this campaign not merely an Issue between the Democratic and Repub lican parties, out between the decent Ind patriotic element and the corrupt lenient wuicn he has so long douil 111 ted. Later Mrs. Davis was soloist lu Unity church, and ber beautiful singing attracted many admirers. After her marriage Mrs. Davis retired from choir work and devoted herself for awhile to an enterprise which proved to be highly successful. This was the management of a series of entertainments railed 'Cradle Songs of Mnuy Nations," In which school children were trained to sing juvenile songs. Mrs. Davis ar ranged and even composed the muslc for these performances. The effort was received with so much favor that the songs were collected and published nnd have had a wide Bale In all parts of the world. Since then Mrs. Davis has added "Christmas Songs" and "Singing Rhymes and tiamcs" to her list. Her first novel is n tale of southern Itah called "The Punchinellos." Our Styles Are Right and Genuine Style, of course, is im portant; so is fit; but style and fit without quality are of little value and no permanency. Quality goes deeper, and here is where the genu ine value of our Cloth ing, Hats, Shirts, Neck wear and Furnishings are really found.
