"The Republican., say that the truaU ought to be regit luted ; regu lated rather than exterminated. The Democrats Bay that they ought to be destroyed. Which party are you go ing to give them over to for correc tion? The Democratic- party has al ways been hoHtile to the trusts. There 1b not a trust In the country today that does not depend on special privileges granted by the Republican party. Do you expect the Republi can party to murder Its- own off spring? I have never accused them of being willing to butcher their own brood. I must defend them against their confessed depravity. Are the trusts going to be corrected by their friends? 1 have no doubt but what they would like it. I say these trusts are born of the Republican policy of a high protective tariff and high freight rates.- High freight rates hut out domestic competition and high protective tariff shuts out for eign competition. These trusts are bound to multiply under such condi tions. Low prices on what you sell, high prices on what you buy. They have been given a special license to plundor the American people by the Republican party. Do you endorse that? If you do you are a Republi can; If you do not you are a Demo crat. I think that the Republican farm ers In this country ought to be able to buy their tools as cheaply as the farmers of the Danube or of the Rhine. He Is a king In his own right and I foel an admiration for blin that I do not have for the crown ed heads who- oppress and plunder mankind. I do not think these Re publican farmers have been treated justly. We Democrats have little to expect at the hands of the Republi can party, but I should think they have the right to ex hoc t some con sideration at tuo hands of their own I party. If you think so you are a Democrat; if not you are a Repub lican. "The Republican party tiHed to say 'stand pat.' We whipped them out of that rank and file and the peo ple are 'going to have revision through the Republican party If they can; through the Democratic party 1 if they can't. The Democratic party says revise and reduco. The Re publican party sayR revise. Is It to be up or down? If In doubt let us see what Congressman Mull snys "the Republican party will revise the tariff up or down as it d n pleases.' Mr, Taft, In his letter of acceptance, says that some schedules ought to be lowerod and some made higher. I have an Idea that no trust will ob ject to that. Perhaps the very thing that the people want lowered will be made higher. Mr. Tart should liavo taken the voters Into his confidence and told them which ones were to be lowerod. If there is anything In the Dlngley bill that Is to be lower ed. The people should have an un derstanding on that -question. The Democratic party makes no equivo cation on that subject. It says 'put all- trust made goods on the free list.' There have been former at tempts to revise the tariff by it? friends. The Republican party re vised the tariff In 18811 and they re vised It up. They revised It In 1890 and they revised It up. They re vised It by the Dlngley law of 18D7 and they rovlsed It up. AIwu.vh up and never down. If you want the tariff reduced, voto the Democratic ticket. It up, vote tho Republican ticket. Tho Democratic party declnred by an unanimous vote Tor the publicity of campaign contributions, the Re publican party declared against It, and that is the only harsh word thnt I am going to nay tonight. If there Is a thief In a crowd no honest man will object to being searched. It Is only the thief who objects. Why would not the Republican party say that It was going to 1h' hom-nt? Re cause that It knew It could not win without the assistance of corpora tion, funds. The people remember how a great Insurance company plun dered tho people In order to con tribute to the last Republican cam paign fund. Mr. Harrlman raised ' $26fi,000, more than a quarter of a million; Mr. Mellln a hundred thou- od and bcncolent old John D. Rockefeller loosened - hM purse strings In order to keep his friends lr office four years ago. They did not do It for their health ami they are precious healthy chaps. It was not for their country's good that they gave that money; they got hack value received. Kvery dollar that they gave they got back out of yon. If your are In favor of thnt. vote the Republican ticket; If not, vote the Democratic ticket. "I heard William Jennings Rrvan ay three days before the Denver con vention, that unless the Deniocratlc party went upon record as in favor of the publication of campaign con tributions that he would not accept the nomination for President of the lTnlted fitnteP (Continued npplauael. Rut Taft knows, as does Roosevelt, that his election depends upon mon ey from the trusts. Which side are yon on? "The Republican party declared (hat the use of the Injunction should In some manner be regulated. The Democratic party declared that it should bv changed and that no man should be held guilty of constructive contempt without trial by Jury. The Democratic party was In favor of giv ing the laboring man the same right that Is given to a common thief or felon. Let us say that they agree upon the Injunction question. Which party will you commission to make the chunge. the Republican party, whose candidate has been tho father of the present practice, or the Demo cratic party who believes that the writ of Injunction should be reason ably restrained. The last Demo cratic Senate passed such a law and it failed in the Republican house. We have petitioned the Republican party for the last eleven years to remedy this evil and have failed. I know how tho laboring man feels about Mr. Taft on this question. Something like tho old darkey who was delivering up a prayer for the spirit of a departed brother, whose future destination he was somewhat dubious about. It went something like this: 'We hopes you Is where we 'specs you alnt.' That's tho way the people feel about Taft. We hope he Is where they expect he aiut. - Senator Miller has ably presented to you how the last Congress appro priated millions of dollars for ex penses, as much as It cost to keep our army In the Held during the Civil War. During Roosevelt's reign there has been 99.000 now ofHces created, nn army larger than that which fol lowed Alexander the Great; larger 'nan thnt of Wellington or of Na poleon, and put upon tho payroll to continue the Republican party in iower. Did you get one of those of fices? "I must apologize to the Repub lican party when I speak of panics. They have told us that panics always ome under Democratic admlnistra lons. It was always necessary In 'he past to allude to the panl' of 1893 under Cleveland's administra tion. Rut they are not talking panics now. The only panic they are talk ing of now is the panic that Is going .o happen If Hryan Is elected. The recent panic was only a small affair, and should have waited a few months uid have been born under the Demo ratlc administration. They will tell vou that' It was born during the emporary absence of Us parents. The panic of 1893 came two months if tor President Harrison went out if otllco and 15 months before the high protective McKinley law was reduced; so In fact wo hnd the high irotective tariff during all the panic f 1893. We want tho truth. The tallica of ISIitJ, 18t9, 1884 and 1890, 0 which 38 millions In clearing .ouse certificates were issued, came tinder Republican adminst rations, 'he last threo panlcH came under a high protective tariff. One came luring the Democratic ndmlniritra lon of 1893 but that came while he high protective tariff law was In orce. You want the truth and I ell you that the Republican party is he mother of panics (Applause). 'Now,. my friends, disregarding ev--rything that we differ upon we can at least agree that panics come .bother the Republican or Demo ratlc party is In power. What we want Is a remedy against these anlcs. Tho republican party offers jou the Aldrfch-Vreelnnd currency lll, born during the dying hours of he last congress. Who Is this man Vldrlch? What Is the Aldrlch-Vree-nnd currency bill? It Is n bribe of ered to financial sharks to bring on 1 panic. A remedy that comes Into 'ffect nftor tho panic comes, Mil ieus, If you bring on n panic; noth n g if you do not. Why, Roosevelt ind Cortelyou deposited 2T millions n two of Rockefeller-s banks when he government had a judgment ol iB millions against hi in. That panic vos brought on by Rockefeller to ;obble up lleluze and Morris. The Republican party endorses that measure and If you endorse It vote he Republican ticket; otherwise vote the Democratic ticket. "Tho Democratic party proposes to prevent the causes that give rise to mules. We propose that any man vho deposits money In a bank shall iave a certificate that Is good for n lolliir any time upon demand. The gov ernment win not deposit Its money unless the banks guarantee the de posit. What reason can bo assigned why tho bunks should not be com pelled to do the snnio for the deposit or? Is tho great government of the United Stales less able to lose its money than tho mini who tollB. The lovernnient of the United states does right, lu making the bnnkB guarantee JtH deposits, and it would lie no more than right to miike the banks do the same. The bank de mands Bocurity from you and It Ih no more than right that you should de mand tho same of them. If It is uood for them it Is good for you. "Now, then, they Bay that tills 'vould ninkes dishonest bankers. Thieves go into the banking busi ness now and they don't care wheth "r the depositors nre guaranteed or not. Down In Oklahoma thieves do not go into the banking business any moro; they go Into the pen In stead. Our guaranteed hanks have Increased J l.mill.lhio In deposits and tho banks not guaranteed have den-eased $1,000,001). "Our guarantee law has brought money from ninny outside states. It has brought money from Illinois from Oregon. It brought money so fast from Kansas that Governor Hoch called a special session to en nct a similar law and It came within ono vote of being carried, being de feated by the Interests. Both par ties have this plank in their plat forms In North Dakota and Neb raska. Governor Sheldon refused to run again unless the plnnk was placed In the platTorm. Down in Oklahoma It has brought money out of hiding. Women wear thslr stock ings down there and don't use them for hiding away money. It costs a fraction of one per cent of the de posits; much less than It would cosl under a national bsnKng system Tho cost could probably be reduced to ono-nlnth of one per cent uuder a national banking system. "They say that It will not. work In a great disaster like 18!):!. Now. let us see. During Cleveland's adminis tration 61 banks fulled and they called It a panic. During Roose velt's administration all the banks closed and they called It a holiday (Applause). Now, in Cleveland's ad ministration when the banks failed, a guarautoe deposit of one-third of one per cent would have paid the losses sustained by the people, dollar for dollar. If these banks had been guaranteed there would have been no run on them and consequently no loss. NORTH SIDE PLANING MILL Atterbery & Co. Just received another carload of Washington Cedar Shingles .
