(iO.MPERS STIRS SOCIALISTS. NEW YORK, Sept. 10. That the attack on Socialism recently made by President Samuel Gompers, of the American Federation of Labor, is to be repeated by William J. Bryan In the address to be delivered by the Nebraskan in this city a week from today. Is a rumor that has been cir culated here, apparently with some basis of authority. As a result, the Socialists of the city are up In arms and may decide, If the report proveB true, to hold an opposition meeting, The criticisms of Gompers, m which he intimated that the money to pay for the "red speical" tour of Eugene V. Debs was furnished by capitalists, have aroused much indig nation in labor circles. It is de clared that Gompers willfully resort ed to falsehood in order to help Bryan and injure the Scimllst cauBe among worklngmen. Socialists declare that the - "red special" Is by no means the "lux urious palace tram of Mr. uompers Imagination and that the (20,000 necessary to cover the expenses of the 10.000 mile tour Is being raised by small contributions of the work lugmen. All such contributions are made public by the national secre tary at stated Intervals, and the larg est sum appearing in the report was $200. A pretty wedding was solemnized at the hume of Mr. and Mrs. Chris ohnson, at Edenbower, Wednesday evening, Sept. 9, 1908, when their charming daughter, Miss Maria Su san Johnson, became the bride ot Prof. Farmer W. A large numbei of their other friends and neighbors participated later In a rousing char ivari, which broke the stlllnesa ot the night for a long distance around. The Johnson home was prettily decorated for the happy occasion with ferns, vine maple and boquets of white carnatious, and the words f the minister that Joined the young couple In wedlock were pronounced as they stood beneath a horseHhoo ol feriiB. white asters and Oregon grupe. From thre Insignia of good luck there streamed the red and white colors of the Drain Normal School, which both Prof. Story and hlB bride at one time attended and where they formed the acquaintance that ripened Into something more than mere friendship. The wedding march Immediately preceding the ceremony was played on the organ by Miss Annu Johnson a sister of the bride. The future Mrs. Story was handsomely gowned In white nnd carried a boquet of bride's roses. A splendid Bupper waB served in courses after the ceremony. Prof., and Mrs. Story will remain at the Johnson home until next Mon day, when they will depart for Sweet Home, to visit with IiIb relat Ives. Later they will go to Tangent Linn couuty, to reside.
