Gilbert, for many years n traveling grocery salesman In south ern Oregon, has gone Into the cigar manufacturing business. A supply of the new edition of the Oregon mining laws has just been received at this otilce. It in eludes everything to date In legal mining procedure. Copies only 40 rents each. One of the largest deer ever kil led in this county was taken a few days ago by T. A. Findlay a few miles east of this city, it was a six-point buck and was killed near Roundtop, a well-known eminence on the watershed between Oak Creek and Deer Creek. Mr. Findlay tells us the animal wetkhed 1B8 pounds dressed, and with the head and hide removed. He says this deer had been known to have been ranging In that vicinity for some time, but be was so wary that even experienced hunters like W. L. Singleton nnd Dr. Miller were unable to bag him, al though they always kept a close lookout when chasing coyotes in that vicinity. Mr. Findlay is very nat urally unite proud of having killed this big deer, although he admits having fired ten shots before the game was finally brought down LOCAL NEWS.
