That should bo the slogan of the Democratic party. Let us havo no more of tho treason and sulking which for eight years have kept tho Democracy out of power, says theS. F. Kxaminor. When tho radical and progressive ulomonts of the party In 18!Mi, and again in l'.(J0, adopted a platform and nomi nated a candidate representing their principles, "tho conservatives" refused "to submit to tho will of the majority. Homo of them put another ticket in the field, others went over to tho Ilcpubli-; cans outright, and still others romainod away from tho polls. Many newspapers calling thomsulvos Democratic reviled Mr. Uryan as a demagogue, a disturber, a socialist, an anarchist and in general as tho porsonilication of tho evil principle in politics. (From July number Ladies' Home Journal. ) In tho month of May number of tho Ladies' Home Journal wo published, in the articlo entitled "Tho 'Patent Medicine' curse," an analysis of "Doc tor Price's havorite Prescription," in which that preparation was represent ed as containing, among other ingre ! dients, tincturo of digitalis, tincture of opium and alcohol. It appears that this particular anal ysis had been made, If made at all, fully twonty-livo years a&o. We, thereupon, employed throe leading chemists in different cities to make an alalysis of tin; preparation from bottles bought in tho opon market. These analysis, ono and all, now show to us conclusively! that not n single one of the ingredients I mentioned by us in tho analysis quoted "him to defeat defeat inflicted by recreant Democrats were denounced as foots und madmen. No languugu was thought too opprobrious to fling at them, and this bitter abuse has not yet ceased. Tho "gold Democratic" press cannot yet refrain from taunts and sneers at tho leaders who stood by the Democratic guns. Tho desertion of tho gold Domocrats and tho Insulting course of the bolting press has been profoundly resented by all Democrats who were true to their party. Hut uro Democrats to allow that resentment, as justllled as it was und as deep, to lead them Into retaliation, now that conservatives havo prevailed In tho national convention? Will they (Stale conduct which they reprobated in tho bolters of lH!)(i and 1!HX)? They will not lie true Democrats If they do. Thcro was lighting at tho St. Louis convention, plenty of It, but every body had his suy, every faction was Klven a hearing. And the convention having done its work, it Is tho duty of irood Democrats loyally to accept the platform and ticket and exert them selves for the election of Parker and Davis. The St. Louis platform is sound on the main things the trusts and tho tariff. Its wholo spirit Is thoroughly l)omoc ratio and any Democrat can accept It In good conscience. It Is high timo that the blows which Domocrats havo been delivering upon one another should fall upon tho He publican party. Surely there Is enough in that organization and Its presidential candid a to to rouso in Democrats, radical and conservative 4 alike, the spirit of enthusiastic np- 7OBtlOD. cohol was contained In the bottles analyzed. j Nuturally, sinco tho analysis we I printed has been proved erroneous, the deductions made in connection withthis preparation were unwarranted and un founded. Under theso circumstances it is now perfectly plain to us that this magazine ! was unintentionally, but nevertheless absolutoly misled in making iho original statement, and wo hereby, of our own volit ion, make this unqualified acknowl edgment of our mistake to the U. V. Pierce Medical Company and to our readers. Tho mistake was honestly made, but It was a mistake. Birds of a Feather. Mrs. William Hobbin, of Louisville, Ky., was recently married to David Huzzard. It is her fourth matrimonial venture. Sho was a Miss Martin, a daughter of one of the best known IJourbon county families. She first married Hobert Crow. Ho died and sho married John Sparrow six months afterwards. She and Mr. Sparrow did not agree and a divorce followed. Mrs. Sparrow becamo Mrs. Wm. Hobbin, but again a divorce was found advis able. After a year of lonely life Mrs. Hobbin has become Mrs. Huzzard. Sho has two Crows, one Hobbin and a Huzard at hor home. Ex. Transient stock given The Creed of Democrecy Extract from President Jefferson's first Inaugural Address, setting forth the Kssontial Principles of lite Demo cratic Party. "About to enter, fullow-citizuns, on the exercise of duties which compre hend every thing dear and valuable to you, it is proper you should understand what I deem the essential principles of our government, and consequently thoso which ought to shape its admin istration. I will compress thein within tho narrowest compass they will boar, stating the general principle, but not all its limitations. Equal and exact justice to all men, of whatever state or pursuasion, religious or political; peace, commerce, and honest friendship with all nations, entangling alliance with none; the support of the state govern ments in all their rights, as the most competent administrations for our do mestic concerns and tho surest bulwarks against anti-re-publican tendencies; the preservation of the general government in Us whole constitutional vigor, as tho sheet anchor of our peace at home and safety abroad; a jealous care of the right of election by the people a mild and safo corrective of abuses vvhieh are I lopped by the sword of revolution where peaceable remedies are unpro vided; absolute acquiescence in the decisions of the majority and vital prin ciple of republics, from which is no appeal but to force, tho vital principle and immediate parent of despotism; a well disciplined militia, our best ro liauco in peace and for the first mo ments of war, till regulars may relieve them; the supremacy of the civil over the military authority; economy in tho public expense that labor may be light ly burdened; the honest payment of onr debts and sacred preservation of the public faith; encouragement of agri culture, and of commerce as its hand maid; the diffusion of information and arraignment of all abuses at the bar of public reason; freedom of religion, freedom of the press, and freedom of porson ucder tho protection of tho habeas corpus, and trial by juries im partially selected. These principles from the bright constellation which has gono before us and guided our steps through an age of revolution and , reformation. The wisdom of our sages and blood of our heroes have been de voted to their attainment. They should be the creed of our ioliiical faith, the text of civic instruction, the touchstone by which to try the services of those wo trust; and should w wander from them in moments of error of alarm, let us hasten to retrace our steps and to regain the road which alone leads to peace, liborty and safety."
