Preparations for the home guard dance to be given next Tuesduy even ing at the armory are almost com plete and the occasion will prove an entertaining and enjoyable affair for all- those who attend. The dance is being given for the purpose of raising funds to defray the expense incurred In buying new uniforms and will un doubtedly be iliberally patronized. Edward Mopro, a youngster from Oakland, was detained here yester day on u phone message from the lad's mother, who feared the boy was enroute to California. There was no complaint entered, nor was thore any cause at home for the boy leaving, but Mrs. Moore feared he had become filled with a desire to see tho world, so phoned In. Mrs. Moore came down lost night and took the boy home. Glen Carmony, a well known young man formerly of tills com munity, write here stating that he has been transferred from I-Iomp-stead, New York, to Mineola, Long Island. He has been away from this city for some time, but says ho Is thoroughly satisfied with arnry life. Also he gives an account of the line work of the Red Cross units of that part of the country and all of the boys have received every necessity. Mr. Carmony is with the 834th aero squadron. C. J. Hurd, county agricultural agent, was here Monday preparing poison lor the extermination of the digger squirrels. He was assisted by I. H. Smith and C. O. Garrett-and will distribute the poison to any one desiring it throughout the summer. Two hundred and eighty-eight quarts of poisoned barley were mixed, and this should go a. long way toward destroying these pests in this vicin ity. This campaign is approved by the government aud financed by the county court, and- all should work to gether to make It a success. Glen dale News. The W. A. Baldwin, a former local boy who has been employed! in Seat tle for the past two months at the Bon Mnrche men s furnishing store, arrived home this morning for a cou ple of weeks' visit with relatives in this city. Mr. Baldwin, while play ing basket ball with the Seattle Ath letic club team several weeks ago, injured his knee nnd was confined to the hospital for a couple of weeks. Ben Baldwin, a brother of Ralph, and also a former resident of this city, arrived today and will remain here visiting with relatives until tho end of next week.
