At the Christian church revival last night the pastor spoke on the subject. "This Picture and That. and illustrated his sermon with a chart. He used for his thought the story of the rich man and Lazarus. He showed the picture of this life, and then of the next, drawing the contrast between the two men in this world, and showing the greater contrast between the two in the next world. The pastor showed that death was the great equalizer, that we brought nothing into the world, and that we can take nothing out. There was a good audience, and splendid interest manifest throughout the ser vice. The children's smile chorus will sing at the meetings tonight, and the pastor has announced his theme as, "Toeing the Mark." There 1b a good Interest being shown in the meetings and the attendance is in creasing nightly. Fuel. Three ears of coal Just re ceived. Page Investment Co. Phone 242. tt CLOCKS TURNED FOR WARD MARCH 31ST Clocks of the United States will be turned forward at 2 a. m. Sunday, March 31, and for the following five months daylight : will be saved'. President Wilson Bigned the bill Tuesday that puts this law into ef fect, to continue until the last Sun day in October, when they will be put back to run again on "Bun time." ' - Saving daylight is a war measure, and Its object is to give an addi tional hour in the morning. It brings the day s work well within the day. light period and saves eyes and arti ficial light. It gives the war garden er more time In the morning and afternoon In which to encourage his crop. Among other practical results It is estimated that it will save 1,000,000 tons of coal a year and will save gas and electric light bills to the tune of $40,000,000 a year it will Increase foodstuffs production by giving more daylight hours for both recreation and work; It will Bpeed up freight movements by glv. Ing an extra hour of daylight for overtime work at the docks and ter minals; It will stimulate all athletic sports which can be started at a later hour; it will be special benefit to women in Industry, as they will stop work at the time of day when their nervous strain is greatest. The practicability and efficiency of the plan havo boen demonstrated in many European countries, and was Invented by Benjamin Franklin, whe published the idea in the Journal de PariB in 1784 in an article on "Eco nomical Project for Diminishing the Cost ot Light."
