Tt-t 11-:J.SE-f3 (Found on Page 251, "Heart Songs") NEGRO SONGS The only negro songs that -will ever find a place in the history of music, were com posed by the slaves of the South before the great war between the states. All folk songs originate among a peasantry. And the only peasantry that ever existed in the United States were the negro slaves. There have been no negro melodies composed by that race since 1860. And as the con ditions that then existed have vanished, never to appear again, it is safe to say that the original slave music is the last of its kind. "Heart Songs" contains a symposium of old negro melodies and this feature alone would make the ownership of it extremely desirable. But these melodies comprise only one of ten classes in the volume. This unrivalled song book is needed in every home. Wherever there is a piano or an organ "Heart Songs" is absolutely a necessity. 16 ART PORTRAITS Of Famous Singers, with Biographical Sketch Elaborate Dictionary of Musical Terms Two Complete Indexes One Alphabetical One Classified Beautiful Maroon Binding, Gold Cover, Art Inlay Design Coupon in today's issue explains terms 'Something for Nothing' Is no proverb of the hen.
