I How About Your Spring Coat or SATURDAY NIGHT Spring Suit Call and See Our Line "Best Values For Least Money THE TILLER ROUTK Is tlie Most Feasihle, Says the ltiikUu Tribune The following reasons are present ed by a correspondent from Tiller In an article urging the feasibility of the proposed route. for the Pacific high way via that point, instead of follow ing the old stage road through Can yon Creek canyon. It is desired to call the attention of the state at large, to the practic ality and feasibility of the South Umpqua-Elk Creek route, via Tiller, to Crater Lake, MedforU, Ashland and all California points. A glance at the map will show this to be a natural topographical route with a maximum grade of less than eight per cent. In fact it is a water grade the entire distance, and unlike any other route now or to be pro posed, it is not a matter of one heart breaking, engine racking climb, up one hill after another, merely for the pleasure of going down the other side.' On the contrary there is but one hill to climb on the South Umpqua-Elk Creek route. Gegginning at either Roseburg, Myrtle Creek or Riddle you have an almost imperceptible up-grade until you reach the divide that separates the hel waters of Elk Creek on the Douglas county side from those of Trail Creek on the Jackson county ; side. From this saddle to the Rogue River at Trail, in Jackson county, is a gradual descent, at no time exceed ing the maximum up-grade on the' Douglas county side. I So much for the question of grades' which though important in them-; selves are by no means everything to 1 be taken into consideration when the expenditure of hundreds of thous ands of dollars, as contemplated in the construction of a permanent high way, as distance to be travelled and scenic beauty play a very important part in the choice of routes selected! by tourists. In the matter of 'diB-j tance It is only necessary to compare j the 95 miles up and down grade route from .Myrtle Creek to Medford! via the Cow Creek route, with the 65 miles water grade route via Tiller between the same pointsf. with Its consequent saving of 40 mileB, to settle this phase of the question for ever. Nothing In all the West can com pare with the scenic grandeur and wonderful 'plctureaqueneBs of this route, presenting as it does an ever changing panorama of fertile valleys, verdure-covered foothills and snow capped peaks, Interspersed with rush ing rivers of pure, Ice cold waters the hills abounding with game of every kind and the waters with the gamest trout that ever took a fly In i fact making it the place that manyl dream of but seen nownere else a sportsman's paradise. To sum it all up, the South Umpqua-Elk. Creek route has the advant age of a water grade, a saving of 40 miles In distance, and scenic beauty, in addition to others too numerous to mention.
