The message also urges enactment of an employer's liability bill, extension of the postal savings bank system, besides the enactment of a rural parcels post law, which the president believes would greatly benefit business and all the people. PORLAND. Dec. 21. Postoffice Stution A, In East Portland, was broken Into last night and robbed of $1,000 in cash, $50C worth of stamps and some registered mall. The safe was entered by the robbers knocking off the combination. People room ing In the upper rooms of the build ing heard the burglars at work, but believing them to be regulan em ployes at their task of sorting the unusually large amount of Christmas mail, paid no attention to the matter. There are no clews at present which might revenl the identity of the men who turned the trick. Vuiverwlty Wins Kiglit. SALEM, Dec. 21. The University of Oregon won its fight today for Its appropriation, made by the legisla ture, when Judge Galloway made permanent the temporary injunction, enjoining the secretary of state from filing the referendum petitions a khI nt maintenance appropriations. Judge Galloway held that many names on- the petitions were false and fraudulent, and that there were not sufficient genuine signatures at tached to meet tne requirement of the law. An appeal will be taken from Judge Gulloway's ruling. j j j Charged with causing a disturb ance on northbound passenger train1 No. 14, O. D. Dennis, a colored gen-j (Ionian, was arrested upon his ar-1 rival In Roseburg last night and is at present confined in the- county jail awaiting tho return of District Attorney Georee M. Brown from Coos county. The arrest was ef-i fected by Night Officer Chambers, who received a message from the conductor in charge of tho train shortly before Its arrival In this city. According to the story told by the conductor, Dennis boarded the train at Ashland, accompanied by a color ed lady. Both were Intoxicated and Immediately set out to make them selves obnoxious to the other passcu gers. They llrst boarded the day coach, but upon complaint of sev eral ladies were ejected and told to retire 10 the sleepers In the rear. They obeyed this command, only to receive orders that their presence was not desired In the Hleeping apartments. They again returned to the day coach, and upon continuing their disgusting pranks, were takeu In charge by the conductor. Night Officer Chambers was notified, and arrested Dennis without difficulty. His lady friend was allowed to pro ceed to Portland where she was tuk en 1n custody this morning. A search of Dennis effects revealed ubout $10 in cash us well as a set of dice and other articles of a simi lar nature. 'Inasmuch as the alleg ed crime was committed outside of Roseburg, tho officers were compell ed to turn the prlBonor over to tho county officials this morning.
