After the pro gram, which was highly enjoyed by the crowd present, a pie auction was held, which was the source of much pleasure and netted the grange lari.Ml. Mr. Mall has given his Riley en tertainment in Medford four times, and the last time the Presbyterian church was packed, so great was the appreciation or the people of that city. Flanagan and family, of Marshlleld, left for their home, via Portland, this afternoon after t couple of days spent in Roseburg vis Itlng at the home of the former's sister. Mrs. T. R. Sheridan. They stopped off here enroute home after a few days spent In San Krancisco and other California cities. County Judge G. W. Wonacott, ag president of the State County Com missioner's Convention, has made a call for the annua meeting of the 'convention for December 13 and 14. at Portland. It is anticipated t he ga t heri ng will he la rge, each county in the state will be well represented. Word was received In this city by wire today from West port. Cal.. that M. M. Kates, a merchant of that city and father of H. V. Hates, of The News, had passed away this morn- j ing after a brief illness. Telegraph information received Sunday was to I the effect that the patient was very low and his recovery doubtful. The deceased was for many years a resi dent of Curry county and will be re membered by many pioneers in both Coos, Curry and Douglas counties. Some thirty years ago he left Port Orford and located at Westport since which time he has been the leading merchant of that city. Sunday night at a late hour Kred Kndieott, night clerk at the Grand hotel, was found In an unconscious condition In the hall, where he had apparently fallen in a faint. Dr. S. M. Wcmit was hastily summoned, and after examination and some heroic treat men t Mr. Utidicott revived. I n falling the young man struck his head on some object, and had bled ojiho freely when discovered. He has no recollection of the fainting spell that overtook him. and when he recovered consciousness and found himself In bed wondered what It was all about. A few hours quiet and the doctor's care again placed him in good condition. Mauager Oliphaut of th PaUc theatre has booked "Human Hearu", a staudard road show for next Sun day night, November 12. This show has heeu booked through Mr. John Court, of Seattle, A fact that stands for quality. The company consists of twelve people and one child. They J carry their own scenery and it will I be used here. This company has played in Roseburg before at the j old opera house.. Those who remem- her the play give It an excellent reputation. Houck was called to the old Hlldeburn ranch, situat ed about miles south of Kose burg, last evening to attend Mrs. Ke. who was found In a critical cordi, in. The patient whs brought to ;,eburi: and admitted to Mercy hospital win-re she Is receiving medi cal attention. Dr. Houck says hfs trip was the first ever made to the Hlldeburn ranch In an automobile, and he predicts it will he the last.
