Kidd&Son Agents AXKNT THE RECALL. Prominent Attornejr tilre. His Views on the Local Issue. Editor News: In your Issue of the 3rd Inst., is a statement put furth in the Interest of the movement to recall Judge Coke, which seems to call for a protest, luasmuch as 1 was connected with the trial in which Judge Coko took the action which has given Hee to the recall jjovement, 1 have heretofore retrain ed from taking part in the matter, n my opinion it would not be an dlfying spectacle to Bee attorneys vho had taken part In a trial iu ourt seek to reverse the court by i recall movement, except perhaps n some flagrant case of gross In capacity, favoritism or corruption. In lassing, 1 feel like saying that pos ;ibly the recall when wisely used vlll be limited to cases of the kind ust mentioned. However that may e, I am not writing at present elth r for or against the recall of Judge 'oke. That he made a mistake in is Instructions to the Jury in the .IcClallen case, 1 have always be lieved; that he acted corruptly, 1 nave never believed. There is no svldence to Justify anyone in charg ing Judge Coke with corruption. What I wish to refer to at pres snt is the spirit shown by the state ment published on behalf of the movement to recall Judge Coke. It said therein that a man cannot get justice except by purchase, that our Judiciary is corrupt, etc. These itatemeuts are downright falsehoods, md the man who retails the like Is a dangerous citizen. One is moved to ask. why could not those who de- ilre to recall Judge Coke, go be fore the people on the merits of their case without making a general mal icious assault upon the courts? Do they wish to absolutely discredit and forever damn the recall system while it is vet new? Perhaps they lack the discernment to see that this is what they are doing. The sensible and patriotic people of the second judicial district will hardly follow such leadership as this. 13. L. EDDY. LOCAL NEWS.
