The total receipts of Roseburg's postal savings hank, on tho opening day totaled $290.10. Charles Harrison (colored 1, who wus recently sentenced to un indeter minate term of from one to Ave years in the state penitentiary for accepting money from fallen women, was tak en to the institution yesteiday morn ing. On Saturday, Harrison appear ed berore the district attorney and requested a parole on the grounds that he was ignorant of the laws re garding crimes of this nature. D. C. Pltzer, a local real estate man. who has been s)cndllig the past two months In the East returned here yesterday morning. Mr. Pltzer says that he accosted may dissatisfied people during his sojourn, hundreds I of whom contemplate locating in I Oregon at some future time. Mr. Plt i zer reports the weather very warm in Iowa, and says the crops are nta i terlally damaged. That he Is pleased to get back to Roseburg and Doug las county goes without saying. Another sad death occurred In Roseburg last evening, when Mrs. 1 William Allen, aged r2 vears. and wife ot a Roseburg-Marshflcld stage driver, died very suddenly of heart ! 'allure. Aside from a husband she I 's survived by five sons, Zeke. Byron Harvey. Anderson and Cecil, and one ! daughter. Mrs. Li-Roy Curtis of Van- ouvt'iL Wash.
