II. llooth Will Tour West crn Oregon Soon. Salem Statesman: Henry Booth, of Roseburg, president of the Oregon Stnte Board of Agriculture, Is about to begin a two-weeks' scouting trip through tho western counties of Ore gon for the purpose of arousing In terest in the state fair this fall. Ho will cover tho Rogue River, the Umpqua, the Willamette River val leys thoroughly, and will include the northern fringe of the counties as far east as Wasco county on his pres ent tour. Most of the counties have already promised to send elaborate exhibits of the products nnd resources of the.lr district to the exposition, so that President Booth expects thnt most of his efforts will be devoted to securing as extensive a display as possible rather than in inducing the various sections of tho state to take part. "We are confident that we shnll have a state fnlr this year much superior to any that has been held in the past." said President Booth "We are getting started earlier; we are having more encouragement In our efforts from the livestock inter ests nnd horsemen of the coast than we have had formerly. The purses and stakes for the races which will be held each day during the week will aggregate something like $15. 000. In addition to this the slate, hoard of agriculture will hang up $18,000 In livestock premiums. "There never has been a time when' so much Jntorest Jins b'jen aroused In the livestock Industry in this state nnd, for thnt matter, throughout the entire Northwest, bf thero tins been this year. Tho high prices of all classeB of stuff, the fact that Portland is now the recognii ed center of the livestock Industry of the Pacific Northwest, If not on the entire Pacific coast, is having s remarkable effect as1 a stimulus to this line of endeavor." Tho state fair promoters have hnd nearly twice as many Inquiries about dates, entries, pluses, premiums. clnssifirntlons, etc., from distant points this year than we,re received last year. Arrangements have boen mnde whereby prnclically all the campaigning stulT hnrness, racers nnd livestock of California will be entered nt the Portland fair in suite of tho fnct that thero will probably be a conflict In dates with tho Cali fornia state fnlr at Sacramento. Cal ifornia is making a most strenuous effort to get eastern turf performers nnd noted livestock raisers and Im porters to cover tho Pacific coast circuit this year,' and there Is pretty good reason to believe that they wiil be successful. In years past Sacramento Snlcm and Portland have drawn heavily up on western I annda and Middle West states for support in race meets and livestock expositions, but this year the horiion Is to he broadened.
