You Don't Have to Go to Sea to See I P AT LAUOn DAY PICNIC. Socialists Will Enjoy an Outing Sun day, May 1. Uoseburg, Oregon, April 28, 1910. Editor News: Since the Socialist victory in Milwaukie, the twelfth largest city in the United States, much attention has turned upon the general Socialistic trend. Of course, this Interest has to a certain extent been augmented by our strenuous times and high living as well as "high coBt of living." Socialist liter ature Is becoming more In demand, and people are making more thorough Investigation for themselves Into so cial and economic questions than ever before. Many people are Informing themselves on the conditions that have brought about the present strat us of affairs in the social and political realm. While others without inves tigation are making bold and arro gant denunclatons of theores that are based on well established economic principles. Even Mr. Roosevelt, the great "discoverer of tho obvious" has realized (?) quito fully the situation and Been fit to discuss to quite, an extent the subject of Socialism In one of his recent addresses to a large rep resentative body of one of tbe leading -intellectual nations, and a nation whose prime minister and one mem- ber of tho cabinet are socialists. This chows that the leading man ot the world (so far as the realm of egoism Is concerned) has come to realize that socialism is a tning material wun which all classes will sooner or later have (o contend either pro or con. The Socialists of (his local vicinity are v;ry enthusiastic and are show ing Increased interest In their move ment. On next Sunday, May 1, they are to hold a Labcr Day picnic In Nacbtor's Grove in West Rosoburg. Mny 1 Is the International Socialist Labor Day, In fact, in most of the European countries it Is 'Jie general national Labor Day. Socialists do not think any polit ical, social or economic movement worthy of conslderaton unless It In cludes tho women and their families and therefore they take great pleas ure In social gatherings In which women mingle on an equal tooting with men. This picnic Is not to be exclusively for socialists, but all laboring men and women are Invited to attend. ' bringing their families, triends and baskets of luncheon. We claim that socialism is for the laboring man and therefore ask him to investigate this subject. Mutual discussion of any political or econo mic question will be permitted at the picnic. If you have any question you wish to discuss along such lines, you will bo welcome to do so. Respectfully. E. L. CANNON. Nice . Crisp Goods The kind that tickles your palate .
