Defense vaults Dufur to big win Once again, defense reigned supreme for the Dufur Rangers. In a pivotal league show- down, Dufur held SWC to six second-half field goals and broke open a 20-19 halftime lead with runs of 13-6 and 13-9 in the final two periods to secure a 46-34 triumph Tuesday in girls basketball action at Dufur. Through 11 games, the Lady Rangers are scoring nearly 12 more points a game than last season, jumping from 34.5 to 47.1, and the defense has gone from giving up 43.0 to 35.1. When the Dufur defense surrenders 34 points or less, they are a perfect 6-0. For the Rangers, Jessica Brown rattled off 15 points, Piper Neal contributed 12, and the tandem of Mona Meanus and Kierstin White added four points each, as Dufur had eight players hit the scoresheet on 18 field goals, five 3-pointers, and 5 of 9 free throws. In her past two games, Marker has delivered 10.5 points and moved Sherman to fourth place in league at 1-1. Jacob Vallie is the president of The Dalles High School Drama Dept. He’s in the spring musical “Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” playing the lead role of Joseph. He is extremely talented and a dedicated theatre student.
