8 Vinity Runs Into Tell Foes The V arsity B rav es, according to coach Mr. Eoff, are a b etter team than their record show s. Although they have not won any games in conference play, sev eral of th eir lo sse s were by five points or le s s . The V arsity has been working hard on their fa s t break and o u tsid e sh o o t ing to overcome a severe height pro blem. With no one on the squad reach ing six fe e t in height, Chemawa is a sm all team in a league of g ia n ts. The C apital C onference is rated as the toughest AA league in the s ta te . Stay- ton and G lad sto n e, two of Chem aw a’s opponents, rank one and two in s ta te wide p o lls. Senior cap tain Willie A lbert has been carrying most of the scoring load for the B raves. A lbert is one of three contenders for the league scoring title . He has been averaging 21.1 points per game in league play and 18.5 for the overall se a so n . A lbert has scored 260 points in 14 gam es. Gerald Gamble is the second scorer for the B raves with 179 points in 13 gam es. The other Brave sta rte rs are Mike W illiam s, 158 points in 16 gam es; Ken T ow ksjhea, 111 in 12 gam es; Perry Matumeak, 77 in 13 gam es. The Junior V arsity has com pleted over half its se a so n and se v e ra l of the players show fine p o tential for next y e a r’s v arsity . The coaches singled out Jim A leck, the team cap ta in , and Harold F a irb a n k s, Fred Kir- s te a tte r and Fred Sw'eowat, but added that a ll team members have shown sp irit and h u stle . The jay v ees a lso lack h e ig h t, but have some e x cellen t o utside sh o o ters. A leck, with 112 points in 8 gam es, leads the team in scoring. K irsteatter has the same amount in 9 gam es. A Field Goal And A Rebound For Chemawa Lynn L ouis tak es a rebound away from a Sacred H eart player during Chema- w a’s 61-31 victory. Lynn also scored 17 p o in ts. P erry Matumeak slip s p a st a ta lle r opponent for an easy two p o in ts. Perry has been one of the top re bounders for Coach Eoff’s V arsity this year. Basketball Girls Keep On Winning The Chemawa girls v a rsity team won over C entral w ith the score of 61-31. T his was the girls second league game of the se a so n . The high scorer of the game was Lynn L ouis with 23 p o in ts. The other girls and their scores are: Pam Stan- ger (9), P atty Simpson (9), Mary Sioux McDonald (8), A rlene Senator (6), C lara Stevens (5), and R ose Tom (1). Chemawa pulled down 75 rebounds to C e n tra l’s 31. Lynn Louis and C lara Stevens were the b e s t rebound ers, both pulling down 18 rebounds. Chemawa got 39% from the field. Lynn L ouis got 64% and Mary Sioux McDonald got 66% from the field. C la ra Stevens tied C entral into 9 jump balls and had 5 a s s is ts . Miss H ale (coach) said they played the b e st game at C entral but thinks the girls are ju s t beginning to work together as a team. The following girls are on the v ar sity team. The coach is Miss Yvonne lale and m anagers are Karen Pinkham ind R ita George. The girls v arsity team was involved n a tournament at R egis on January 6th. There were three schools in the ournament - Chemawa, Sacred H eart ind R egis. Chemawa played full length games with R egis and Sacred H eart. Our team won both games with the scores 40-36 a g a in st R egis and 47-25 ag ain st Sacred H eart. The top scorers of the game were Pam Stanger (20) and R ose Tom (9). The girls team won a g a in st Sacred Teart at a home game on January 28th, with the score of 61-31. The scorers ot the game were; Lynn Louis (17), P atty Simpson (10), Pam Stanger (10), A rlene Senator (8). C lara Stevens (6). Susie Marchand (5). and Mary Sioux McDonald (5).
