3 CHEMAWA AMERICAN NEW CLASSES Chemawa’s curriculum has been expanded this year with the addi tion of four new c la s s e d These elective subjects are Pre-Algebra, Psychology, Graphic Arts, and Physics. Each course has been initiated to provide á wider educa tional background for the students of Chemawa. What do these new ‘ courses offer? Psychology-is a new class,, of fered to Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors, It is'th e scientific study of aninials, which includes ,mah. Some of the áreas to be covered aré the following: Principles of Learning, Understanding Personal ity, How Behavior Develops, Here- dity and Environment, Emotional Problems, Problems of Family Group and Social Problems. These areas are being covered to acquaint the student with a number of behavior problems, so that the students may understand problems that they may coiiie into contact with. The reason the Social Studies department decided ' to have a Psychology course is because of the high interest among students. The Psychology c la ss will involve faculty and students on the Che mawa campus,. 1 Physics, another course, is about the tools of man and how he uses them. It also explains how he changes, his environment to a certain extent. Campus Activities The Catacomb meeting was held recently in the Hawley Hall b ase ment. For those who don’t know what Catacomb is* it is a meeting for different religions on eámpus, such as Russian Orthodox, Protes tant, etc. At the next meetings, you will have fun meeting students, some of the students w ilLplay guitar, some Will sing, Others will make hand-made projects. Refreshments will be served during or after the meeting. The Catacomb Club was estab lished last year by Protestant and Catholic students. The club is still running this year and the meetings will always be held on Thursdays' The Guides Club recently met and elected officers for the 1969- 1970 school year. A1 Goozmer will serve as President with Patsy W assillie acting as V ice-Presi dent. Other officers are Mary Glazier, Secretary and Treasurer, Peggy Williams. The Guides Qlub holds its meeting the second Mon day of every month to discuss both new and old visitors to the Chemawa campus. The purpose of the club is to provide capable guides for the many visitors Che mawa receives throughout the year. WINONA HALL ,^ £ $ IQ R S SPONSOR DANCE In our dormitory life, there has Friday evening, October 3rd, been much going on as we, the approximately 400 members of the girls of Winona Hall, try to get student body attended a dance organized for the Schbol year. Every passing day we are get sponsored by the Senior C lass. The dance was held to raise ting more organized as we do our money for the Senior Class pro details, homework, and all the jects, such a s the banquet and the things in the dorm. We are more gift to the school. Approximately acquainted With our roommates, $63.00 was collected from the our matrons and our teachers. There are Quite a few new students who attended the dance, which was held from 7:00 to 10:00 students, in our dorm: Some are transfers, some are from the North in the gym. Agiak, Nick Philip and Neon Kru- As we move towards this goal, we koff made up the band, which expect a most successful year socially, and helped make the Senior dance fun academically, athletically. for everyone there. JANS RECEIVE CAPS Friday, October 10, the JANS had their last orientation at Salem Memorial Hospital. Anecia Wassillie, Annie Old- friend, Sophie George, Grace Mark, Inez Kakoona, Bertha Passamika and Lou Moore were trained by a Registered Nurse at the hospital and will receive their caps Satur day, October 18, at 10:00 a.m. After getting their caps, they will receive various schedules while, on duty at the hospital, every Friday and Saturday, of the month. The JANS learned many things about making a patient happy, such as making his bed, getting him the things he needs and cheer ing him up. JANS is an excellent way for young girls interested in nursing to gain valuable know ledge and experience. WINONA ADDS SOMETHING NEW The Winona Hall girls are very proud of their new living room furniture which was added this summer. The girls are making good use of the furniture and they will take care of it so it will last a long time. If you haven’t seen it, come on over and enjoy your self! Come watch T.V. or listen to the phonograph and make your self comfortable. JUNIOR PARTY There will be a Junior party in Brewer Hall, Friday, October 31, on Halloween night. The party will also be opened to the Fresh men boys living at Brewer, sjnce there are so few of them. No one will object if a boy invites a girl to the party - not in the least! The Juniors and Frosh will pro vide the Halloween decorations of black cats, witches, ghosts, and goblins. The entertainment will be a band or records; either way there will be lots of dancing, games, and refreshments, and everyone should have a great time. Since this is a party for the Juniors and Freshmen only, iden tification will be checked at the door. The Sophomores and Seniors should not feel left out. Next time it will be their turn and the Frosh and Juniors will have to stay home.
