4. TWO NAMED TO REC. CLUB P A R TIE S On Sunday evening, Earch 3? the Eecreation Club, held a party in the gym. The party was given to honor the Varsity Basketball team, Pep Club, and Music Department. The faculty members from P.S. and Music were also invited. Along with their spouses. Eefreshments were sandwiches, cookies, punch and coffee. The party was concluded with dancing. "The Meteors," provided the music. I t is th One of the b u sie st organizations on campus i s Guides Club. I t i s the re s p o n s ib ility of th is club to see th a t v is ito r s are conducted around the school. To help id e n tify the guides the club has invested in some jackets to be worn by students while they are guiding. The jack ets are deep maroon, and have a l i t t l e round white patch on the l e f t sleeve, which id e n tif ie s . W INTER SPORTS BANQUET HELD The Physical Education Depart ment held i t s Winter Sports Banquet in Chemawa Dining H all, March 20. At th is banquet awards are given to those students th a t have earned them in w inter sp o rt com petition. Mr. Douglas and h is s t a f f pre pared a fin e meal and climaxed the dinner with a huge cake th a t they had baked. The cake was decorated with the l e t t e r s " Well Done BraveS with the le tte rs ," W e ll Done Braves 1* . A fter the group had fin ish ed the meal, awards were presented. G irls were f i r s t to receive tro p h ies and l e t t e r s . Marie Neakok was mentioned fo r having scored the most points Were f i r s t to receive tro p h ies and l e t t e r s . Outstanding player awards went to Emily Tsosie in v a rs ity vo lley b a ll and to Alice Paul in v a rs ity b a sk etb a ll. In boys b a sk e tb a ll, Wilbur Begay was voted by h is team ates as the most valuable play er. He a lso won the coaches award. Sam L eav itt won the award fo r being the teams most improved player. The g i r l s tra c k team won t h e ir f i r s t meet of the season ag a in st Oregon S tate School For The Deaf. Twenty-eight g i r l s from Chemawa took p a rt in the meet. An epidemic in Alaska has prompted the Health Center to ad m in iste r immunizations to a l l A las kan students from g e ttin g them when they go home th is summer. Wilbur Begay and Kee Wilson were s e le c te d as f i r s t and second choice re s p e c tiv e ly . Another Chemawa mem b e r, Percy F risby received honor-; able mention. Hank Kentla and Larry Logan o f S ile tz and Ross M iller o f Jefferso n , were the o th er members of the f i r s t f iv e . Ray Hosteen BRAVES STAGE 8 MILE RUN On Thursday, February 29, run n ers gather a t 3*30 p.m. fo r an e ig h t mile run. The f i r s t ten runners to f in is h th e race were selected to run in an In te rn a tio n a l e ig h t mile race a t Lake Oswego, Oregon. The f i r s t four fin is h e rs were Nelson Begay, Eddie Omnik, Leonard Huntington, and Bob James. All runners fin ish ed the race approx im ately fo rty -fiv e minutes. . __________ Kee Wilson DON'T GET SENIORITES I t seems to be n a tu ra l to g e t a l i t t l e lazy now th a t th e ra in y sea son i s gone. Everyone wants to en joy th e warm rays o f th e sun, when ever i t sh in es. A fter c la s s most o f th e students are out s tr o llin g around campus, l a z i ly fo rg e ttin g t h e i r homework. Most o f us find i t hard to get in th e mood to study when we do go in sid e . Mathew Waskey OLD TIMER V IS IT S Mr. and Mrs. William Lovelace of Stayton, Oregon observed th e ir 64th wedding anniversary on March30. The couple were m arried 1904 in McBride Hall on the Chemawa Campus. Mr. Lovelace was a v i s i t o r on campus l a s t week. He s ta te d th a t he o rig in a lly came from Texas, but tha he had been a student a t Chemawa. He i s 89 years o ld , but s t i l l is able to d r i ve hi s own automobile. Governor, Tom McCall”, had sent the couple a l e t t e r of congratula tio n s on t h e ir 64th anniversary. Mr. Lovelace has promised to r e tu rn in a few weeks and t e l l some of h is e a rly day re c o lle c tio n s .
