The past year proves what an important role student interest and student leadership play in our school program. Participation and membership in the on and off campus programs this year was amazing. The colorful year-end activities in each of these are something to remember. With student leadership, new and exciting experiences will be added to our program next year. The Student Council is to be highly commended for their sincere and able administration. The intense in terest and excitement of the recent student political rally and the election campaign in choosing council officers for the coming term was certainly education in action. This is Chemawa. We, the staff at Chemawa, are so very proud that so many of you are deeply concerned and so determined to get a good education and good training while the opportunity is open to you. A happy summer to all. Principal's Best Wishes As the 1963-64 school term comes to a close, the Chemawa students and staff are taking this opportunity to extend greetings to the parents and friends of the 875 young men and women who have been Chemawa’s student body this year. Chemawa is the oldest of the Federal Boarding Schools for Indians. In the fireproof, vault is “Chemawa’s Big Book” , the Register of Students, which contains the names of thousands of students who have received all or most of their educational training at Chemawa. The first student enrolled was Charles Ashue, Puyallup Tribe, Puyallup, Washington, who entered February 25, 1880. The last student enrolled, number 16,150 is Fed- erick George Bremner, age 16, Thlinget Tribe of Yaku tat, Alaska, who entered February 15, 1964.
