Mrs. Davis' home is in Salem, Oregon. Mrs. Chambers and Miss Grider have been to our dormitory to make the Satur day inspection. We are alw ays happy w hen the em ployees can come to our dormitory to inspect. W e're proud of our clean building. Loretta Quaempts has recently becom e Councillor for Unit III. She w as also elected b y the Council to be Secretary of the House Council. All of the Senior girls are now Councillors. Eleanor Charley and Tullulah Tulee went to Salem last Saturday to pick out new records for the Gym and for Winona hall. They did real w ell in their buying, selecting 11 new recorrs for the Gym and 9 for Winona hall. All the girls are very pleased with the "boogie" and "waltz" records. Christmas w as a busy time but very nice this year, at Winona. There w ere a lot of nice things sent from different clubs, stores and schools to the girls. So the Councillors a n d Miss C hallis h a d to sp en d m any hou rs fixing a n d w ra p p in g a n d nam e ta g g in g th e gifts for e ach girl. W inona h a ll Councillors got all the Mc Bride hall gifts re a d y , too, a s a C hristm as gift to them. The R eading room really looked like S a n ta C la u s' w ork shop for ab o u t tw o w eeks before C hristm as. The girls of W inona h all a re a lw a y s very thankful for the m any nice things people send. It is a p p re c ia te d b y everyone. The com m ittee in c h a rg e of th e C hrist m as eve p rogram h a d every th in g w ell or g an ized a n d carried out. The committee w as Tullulah Tulee, chairm an, N ancy But ler, E leanor C harley, a n d Julia Sakota. The p rogram Was a n n o u n ced b y Tullulah Tulee, She w elcom ed the visitors a n d everyone joined in singing sev eral favorite Christm as carols. Yvonne Scott sa n g a solo, "W hite C h ristm as," G erald in e a n d Jean Hamlin a n d A llene G ray harm onized "W inter W o n d erlan d ." The g irls' choir sa n g two num bers a s did the 8th g ra d e girls, w hich w ere very b eau tifu l. Nettie Racine sa id " 'T w as the Night Before C hristm as" very effectively in h e r nig h t gow n a n d cap. The program closed w ith m ore carols b y everyone. W inona hall girls w a n t to th an k Mrs. Jo h annaber for play in g the piano for th e program . S an ta C laus cam e in to w ish all the girls a "M erry C hristm as." After the program , e ach girl received a b ig candy sack treat, then the Units w en t to v arious p a rts of the dorm itory for their little Christmas, eve parties a n d distribution of gifts. Lights w ere not out until 10:30 p.m. C hristm as eve. The following Units h a v e w on the A w ard Trip so far this y e a r in the order they h a v e won: Units VI, V, III a n d IV. W e hope e ach Unit g ets to win. Sylvia Win- nier a n d h er Unit IV h a d their trip in January, alth o u g h they w on the a w a rd for Decem ber. W e a re very h a p p y to h av e R ebecca Andy back a t school. She enrolled last week. -During the C hristm as vacatio n the. fol low ing w ere visitors a t W inona hall: Mrs. Q uaem pts a n d d au g h te r, Mrs. M arkussen a n d Mrs. W illiams, Ellen Henry, Iris John- ley a n d sister. They w ere all here to visit W inona hall girls. D uring the holiday season there w ere so m any activities th a t for ten days in a row there w a s som ething going on a t night—so one evening w e w ent to b e d at 9:00 to g et ca u g h t u p on some much n e e d e d sleep. The pop corn tre a t w as w on by Units I, VII, III, a n d II. W e're hoping the other Units will g e t it some time this year. Let's b e good citizens a n d then w e 'll be sure everyone g ets the treat. Since half of the y e a r is gone, Miss Tedlock counted the Excellent R atings in H ousekeeping for the rooms. So far the follow ing rooms h a v e the most Excellents: 50 (Julia Sakota, N ancy Butler)2-bed room; for for th a n tw o b ed s it is 39 (V era Davis, V era A braham , W ilma O lsen, Delores Allen, Elsie Allen, Rose M arie John). Room 50 h a s the most excellent points so far this y e a r in the dormitory. The H ouse Council h a s m ade a schedule for the House M eetings for the rest of the y e a r for e ach Unit to p u t on a program . Jan u ary 21 w a s Unit III a n d IV w ith Sylvia W innier a n d Lor.etta Q uaem pts in charge. F eb ru ary 18 will b e Unit II a n d VII with T ullulah Tullee a n d Joan Smith in charge. M arch 11 w ill b e Unit VIII w ith Louise B enally in ch arge. April 15 is Unit V w ith N ancy Butler in c h arg e, a n d on M ay 6 will b e a n A m ateur Hour for all girls, w ith E leanor C harley in ch arg e. At these program s there is a House. M eeting first, then it is turned over to the C ouncillor and h e r Unit. Units I a n d VI h a v e a lre a d y perform ed. At in tram u ral the girls hav e b e e n p la y ing b ask etb all. I t ' w ould b e more enjoy able. for everyone if all the girls w ould be good sports, L et's m ake a special effort to b e good sports a t all tim es, b u t esp e cially in connection w ith SPORTS. Interior—C h em aw a School, C hem aw a, Q regon Loretta Q uaem pts a n d Sylvia W innier h a v e really b e e n w orking — they have sa n d e d a n d varn ish ed all the furniture in their room. It looks nice, girls! The H ouse Council spent a p a rt of one m eeting discussing movies th at th ey w ould like to h a v e put on the list to b e show n in the auditorium next sem ester. Anyone who h a s recom m endations for m ovies should tell their Councillor so w e can h av e a good list. Julia Sakota a n d N ancy Butler a re the new s rep o rters for this month for the C hem aw a American. McBRIDE HALL The y e a r of 1950 h a s end ed a n d w e are startin g a new y e a r of 1951. W e hope it Will b e a h a p p y y e a r for all of us. We know that it will b e if every McBride girl is a good citizen a n d tries to m ake other p e o p le . h a p p y .. -., - . . • . ■ > -;; . So far w e hav e now h a d tw o A m ateur program s on M onday nights. Mrs. Fischer cam e to the la st one a n d h elp ed to judge w hich w a s the b est perform ance. The judges can u su ally tell which, is the b est by the ones th a t get the most ap p la u se . M ary Ellen W ym an, M arie Thomas, Lucet- ta H ahn a n d R egina G odow a have, w on prizes on the A m ateur hour. The girls of McBride a re g la d that they got their report c ard s for the first sem ester. Some are going to .work a lot h a rd e r so the report- will b e better. Christine Thompson a n d Beverly Morin w ent to Salem one S a tu rd a y a n d selected some records for McBride hall. Christine a n d Beverly a re McBride officers so they w ent w ith tw o W inona h all Councillors to look for p h onograph records. They m ade good selections a n d McBride girls liked them. They hav e b o u g h t some racks to put the records in, so th a t they can b e checked out easily a n d not g e t broken. They use some of the records for dancing up in the "rum pus, room " a n d the others a re just to listen to. G roups I a n d II w on the p a rty for being the best citizens, in D ecem ber. The House Officers g a v e them a n ice cream party. McBride girls h a d a very M erry Christ m as. E ach girl received sev eral presents a n d then th e re w ere m any gam es, toys, furniture, a n d other things for the play room. Christm as eve S a n ta C laus cam e for the program a n d sta y e d to h elp p a ss out the presents. The program w a s enjoyed by m any visitors a n d the girls p u t on a good program . McBride girls got a candy tre a t for C hristm as a n d then an o th er tre a t for New Y ear's day.
