Some of the topics stu d ied a re how to control a car, sportsm an-like driv ing, re a d in g of signs, equipm ent a c a r m ust h av e to p a ss the O regon S tate test, a n d m an y other topic?. W hen w e com plete the course w e will b e re a d y to take the O regon S tate driving test. OUR LIBRARY The school library got off to kind of a b a d start this term, a s it h a d to b e re a rra n g e d after the sum m er se s sion a n d ju st .w hen this w as finished the c a rp e n te rs a n d electrician h ad to m ove books, a n d rem oved some of the shelves to install the new p a n e l a n d 400 am p. service. Chemawa, O regon • Dec., 1950 JAMBOREE The M arion C ounty "B" le a g u e team s held their a n n u a l jam boree in the W illam ette’ U niversity gym on D ecem ber 2. This w as a h a rd fought contest b e tw e e n the b a sk e tb a ll team s of e ach side a n d the p e p sq u ad s. A lthough the south, w on in points for bask etb all, the north c a r ried off both prizes for the p e p sq u ad s. The first prize w as a w a rd e d to G ervais a n d second to C hem aw a cheering sections. C h em aw a p la y e d Sublim ity in the contest a n d w as d e feated b y one point. The score w as Sublim ity 12, C h em aw a 11. 10th GRADE ASSEMBLY PROGRAM The 10th g ra d e h a d its assem bly program on Nov. 9th. The 9A a n d 10A chorus sa n d "M orning" a n d "O ur Country." The class invited Bonnie Morton a n d Wm. Mininick to sing "B arnacle Bill, the Sailor" a n d “Down in the V aliev." They h a d su n g these songs on a b ro a d c a st over KOCO a w eek previously. Chas. Reed, Earl- Ironpipe, G ale H ow ard a n d D arrold Unive p la y e d two instrum ental num bers, "Slow Boat to C hina" a n d "M arie." G w endolyn C olby g a v e a very in teresting patriotic num ber, "You H ave a D ate with Destiny." Yvonne Scott sa n g two solos, "T here's No Tomorrow" a n d "C ount Every Star." Jacqueline Pyne a n d Im ogene W ashington g a v e a hum orous skit, "9 C hatter B arrage." W e feel our program w as a suc cess a n d w e received m an y com pli m ents on it."^-Imogene W ashington, 10B, C hem aw a. FRESHMEN STUDY CHILD TRAINING The Freshm en expect to b e good b ab y -sitters next summer. They h av e b e e n studying som e units on b a b y care a n d child training. Each stu dent stu d ied a different p h a se of b a b y care a n d g a v e a n oral report. The sam e w as done in child-train- ina. The class m em bers w ere su r p rised to find the subject so interest- in d a n d all a g re e d th at they h a d learn ed a lot. No. 2 CLUB VISITS PORTLAND The In d ian club, w hich rep resen ts the C h em aw a "student body, h a s fen stu dents b elo n g in g to it. They re p re se n t the Yakim a, U m atilla, W e n a tc h e e a n d Blackfeet tribes. Some d a n c e s a re ta k e n from th ese tribes, w hich the students b elo n g in g tó the club do. The club m em bers d ress in their tribal costum es w hich h a v e b e e n m a d e b y their p a re n ts or g ra n d p aren ts. The costum es a re h a n d b e a d e d in lovely d esig n s a n d á re very valu ab le. W hen the Indian club w e n t to Portland to the Y.W.C.A., w h ere the D aughters of th e A m erican Revolu tion w ere h ay in g their m eeting, the club m em bers p u t on their Indian costum es a n d w ere invited to the m eeting. O ne of the su b jects' d is cu ssed a t the m eeting w as the giving of C hristm as gifts to the C h em aw a students. The la d ie s a sk e d the girls w hat they though the stu dents w ould like a n d w hether it should b e indi v idual or a gift for the w hole school. The club m em bers thought it- w ould b e nice to h a v e a gift for the w hole school to enjoy. After the m eeting the program ' w as given b y the Indian .club, w hich la st ed a b o u t one hour. The club m em b e rs w ere then interview ed b y som e girls from St. H elen's school, w ho w ere studyind a b o u t the A m erican Indian. The, DA.R m em bers serv ed refreshm ents. The trip w a s g re a tly enjoyed b y all the club m em bers. Mr. M att, w ho p la y e d a trum pet solo, a n d Mrs. Johcm naber, club sponsor, w ent .with the group. SENIORS HAVE PARTY The m em bers of the Senior class h a d a n afternoon p a rty on D ecem ber 5th, honoring Mike Pelletier. The af ternoon w as sp en t p la y in g cootie, after w hich refreshm ents w ere served. Besides the honored guest, Mike, the class exten d ed invitations to Mr. R. M. Kelley, Mrs. Nell Bran non, Mr. S tan ley Ashcntt, Mr. E. H ud son a n d Mr. Francis Kettleson. FOURTH GRADE SELLS SHEEP Mr. Noel took us to Salem to sell o-’f sheen. W e h a d eleven, sheep. W e sold three y oung sh eep , so now ■"re h a v e eight sh e e n left. W e got $95.40 for the three sheep. W e saw lots of other sh e e p there. W e saw the m an w ho b o ught the sh e e p a n d w e sa w a m an w ho bro u g h t four pigs in to sell.
