TH E CHEMAWA AMERICAN 4 CLASS NIGHT W ednesday evening, May 22, at the school audito rium, the seniors b eq u eath ed all their worldly goods, rev ealed the secrets of their p ast a n d looked into the future. The setting w as a radio station w here the jovial m aster of ceremonies, Ernest Spencer, announced the program, w eather reports a n d correct time over sta tion KCIS. TENTH GRADE PICNIC On M ay 3, the rollicking tenth graders h a d their an n u al picnic supper at C hem aw a park. Our 10A girls could not b e released from their work in the dining hall until 5:30. While the rest of us w aited for them, we kept ourselves b usy lining up the platters of baked beans, potato salad, sandw iches a n d apples; roasting the wieners; sniffling the arom a of good strong coffee; a n d sm acking our lips over the ice cream. As soon as the 10A girls arrived we fell in line for the chow. Are our girls good cooks! (Continued) to C hem aw a occurred on Friday afternoon with the less formal farewell dance in the evening. Mary Agnes Simmons w as the salutatorian a n d Fred Miller pre sented the valedictory talk. The principal speaker w as Dr. Lawrence A. Riggs of the W illamette university education departm ent. His words of concurrent adm oni tion a n d courage to the youth gradu ating into a world of chaotic conflict w ere com m anding a n d sincere. Supt. Evans m ade the diplom a aw ards a h d Rev. Allen Wil cox b lessed those present in pray er to end the cere mony. The following seniors w ere g rad u ated V irginia M. Alexander, Robert E. Eickmeyer, Ber- niece Foster, Terry S. Francis, Don L. G eary, Elsie Rae G runlose, Alice Ione Hawk, Marie A. Jim, Virginia LaFromboise, Fred Miller, G eorge Miller, Calvin E.. Picard, Mary Agnes Simmons, Ernest C- Spencer, Don ald B. Williams, Justin Wilson, Phillip M. Bull, John Plouffe, Paul W. Svinth. John Plouffe a n d Paul Svinth are currently in the arm ed forces. Ernest Spencer, Donald W illiams, Justin Wilson a n d Phillip Bull are returned veterans w hose g raduation w as effected through successful comple tion of arm y exam inations. COMMENCEMENT 1.
