THE CHEMAWA AMERICAN 3 Weddings With the Colors Weddings of Chemawa employees will be of in terest to readers of the Chemawa American. On September 26, Miss Minnie Wehunt, senior teacher, was married to Mr. Robert Byers of Indiana. Mr. Byexs had recently been discharged from the ar my. Mrs. Byers resigned from the Indian Service on November 9 and they are making their home in San Louis Obispo, California, wheie Mr. Byers is em- ployeed by the Southern Pacific railway company. The marriage of Miss Mary Semanski, girls advis er here for many years, to Mr. James Ivy took place in Salem October 18 at the home of Rev. and Mrs. Allen Wilcox. Mr. Ivy is returning to the Indian Service after thirty-eight months in the Navy. Mr. and Mrs. Ivy will make their home at Phoenix, Ar izona. Mrs. Ivy and Mrs. Byers were honor guests at re ception and shower on November 9 given at the home of Mrs. R. M. Tisinger. Co-hostesses with Mrs. Tisinger were Mrs. Myrthus Evans, Mrs. Nell V. Brannon, Mrs. Mary Peacher, and Miss Elda Dodrill. Miss Ruth Evelyn Morse and Mr. Austin F. Park hurst were married on January 1, 1946, in Buckley, Washington. Mrs. Parkhurst is the librarian here at Chemawa and Mr. Parkhurst is supervisor of ra dio construction in the Indian Service with head quarters at Salt Lake City. They will be at home there after February 1. Happiness to them both. The marriage of Miss Edith Mae Workman to Mr. Roy Shipman of Port Angeles, Washington, took place in Seattle on September 19. Mr. Ship man was a former Indian Service employee and Mrs. Shipman who was chief clerk at Chemawa had recently retired from the service. They are making their home in Port Angeles. Gerald Hoffer S2-c is attending a Radar operator school. He visited the campus in October. Melvin Woundedeye was discharged from the Ar my on October 12, 1945. He was visiting the cam pus for a few dajs. Now he is in Montana visiting his family. Meacham Tullee visited Chemawa around the middle of November. He is stationed in Camp Rob erts, California. Pvt. Joe Williams, Army, is also stationed in camp Roberts. Eugene Brown enlisted in the navy last summer and is in the Hawaian Islands. Leslie Brendible of Metlakatla, Alaska was dis charged from the Marine Corps, in September, 1944. He was a former student of C.I.S. Two former Chemawa students now home visiting their folks are, Jack Miller, Navy, and William Mil ler, Army. William is a graduate of Chemawa. Stanley Williams ’44 was discharged from* the- Army on September 29, 1945. Pvt. Howard Logan is now in the Marine Corps in San Diego. He visited the campus in November. Pvt. Eugene Pollock, Marines, is stationed in San Diego. Pvt. Clifford Arthur is stationed at Keester Field, Miss. Friends are requestd to write. Calvin L. Summers was ^recently home on a fur lough. He was with the Airborne Paratroopers Di vision in France. He made several jumps in combat areas. George Walters discharged from the Army, and reenlisted, spent a few days on the campus in Nov ember. George graduated from Chemawa in ’44. Lettermen Initiation Lettermen initiation was held during the last week of September. All the boys who earned a var sity “C” in some athletic field were eligable to join the club. • A White Honse visitor asked Roosevelt, “Mr. President, how in the world did yon acquire such patience—with all the bores you meet in a day?” The President replied: "You acquire patience after you’ve spent two years learning to wiggle your big toe again.”—The Real F.
