Summary of Sport Activities
Trackmen Lose to Molalla
The Molalla Buckerocs gave the Chemawans their
first loss of the season. Bad weather accounted for
the poor record on both sides.
Thus far, the Indians have placed first in a triang­
ular meet and lost this one.
The Indians have plenty of outstanding talent this
year, and the rest of the boys are showing improve­
ment as the season progresses.
The Buckeroos chalked up 72 points to the In­
dians 50. The relay proved to be a disastrous affair
for the Chemawans, Walters fell on a slippery bend,
and Molalla went on to easily win that event.
Outstanding boys for Molalla were: Calhoun who
took 1st in the mile and 880; Frick 1st in shot-put,
discus and javelin. Chemawa’s George Walters was
high point man at the meet, taking 1st in the 100,
220, and broad-jump. Other boys taking first place
in the meet were: Don Williams and Robert Edden
tie in the pole vault, McMeel in the 440, and Edden
in the high jump.
Baseball turnout
When coach Wilder sent out his call for baseball
“flashes,” he found out he had a great deal of new
material to break in. After seeing all the boys on
the field, he found he had only two lettermen from
last year’s team. Due to shortage of equipment, he
has to send a lot of boys to practise in tennis shoes.
Occasionally Pete George is left in charge when
Coach Wilder is gone. Scrimmages are held between
the first and second string to develop a batting eye
and a fielding ability.
Silverton Swamps Chemawa
The Braves got bounced for the first time, April
13, at Silverton when they were swamped in a base­
ball game 17-4. Due to insufficient practice the Braves
lost the game on errors.
The starting line-up was Bennett, catcher; Wil­
liams, pitcher; Charles, 1st base; Davis, 2nd base;
George, 3rd base; Skahan, short stop; Hoffer, left
field; G. Miller, center field; and Stopps, right field.
Leather Pushers defeat Woodburn
The Chemawa leather punchers defeated the
Woodburn Training School, Friday, March, 26, at
the Training School. The boys who won decisions
for Chemawa were Leslie Bill, Joe Pete, and Clifford
Aurthr. Draws were Don Williams and Bobbie
Kutch. Summers scored a TKO over his opponent
in the second round and Arthur Johnson KO’d his
opponent in the second round. Terry Francis, Edgar
Saluskin, and Richard Burke lost but they all put
up a good scrap. Other members of the team were
George Foster, Walter Champine, and their man­
ager William Jerred.

be out around May 21st.
We have a show every week here. The last one
was "Always In My Heart.” I liked it. They had
some others, too. One was ,fTo the Shores of Tri­
poli.” It was a good show. They might have one
iomorrow too. I hope it’s a good one. They get mostly
cowboy shows. The two are Gene Autrey and Roy
Rogers.
Last Saturday four girls went down to Portland to
christen a ship. The name of the ship is U. S. S.
Chief Joseph. About 25 Chemawa employees went
down too. Most of the employees that went were
Indian employees. Mr. Jackson was master of cere­
monies. Mr. Larson made a two minute speech.
After they were through Mr. Kaiser gav a banquet.
There was one little girl that ran all over the place
while they had the banquet. They had the Singing
Senteniels there. One of them called her over and
sang her a lullaby. They said she just about went to
sleep.
Easter is coming soon. It is the 25th of April.

Hi-Y Splash Party
Mr. Kells of the Salem YMCA invited the Chem­
awa Hi-Y and Girl Reserves to the Salem YM Build­
ing for a splash party on March 9th.
After an hour of swimming the students had cof­
fee rolls, potato salad, and weinies before the fire­
place in the social room, with dancing later.
We are grateful to Mr. Kells for this invitation.
Public Nuisance! . . .
Students, it annoys the faculty and others if you
move from place to place when we are in assembly.
The proper thing to do when you enter the auditor­
ium is to be seated and remain in that place until
dismissal.
