from the Vocational 'Departments B arber S hop : Under the leadership of Mr. Thatch er the beginners are coming right along. There are just certain weeks when the grade school get their hair cut. During this week the senior girls are per mitted to work. The shop has just received a new order of tonics, hair oil, shampoos, and neck bands. T ailor S hop : Veterans C. LaRoque and E. Davis are working on the last two coats for the band un iforms. The new boys are getting a lot of practice working on the new baseball uniforms. They are Jack Whitelaw, Calvin Leader, Lacy Takes-Enemy, and Dan Ferro. Wilfred Buber has just finished a suit for an outside doctor. All boys were on hand when the back room was cleaned out and painted. E lectric S hop : Pete George, Henry Courville, and “Dog” McMeal have started the wiring of Mc Nary Hall for the purpose of base plugs. They have drawn up plans for rewiring and fixing the Electric shop. Under the able guidance of Mr. Metzger they have put in services at the welding shop which they have yet to finish. They also aid in odd jobs around the campus such as, putting in light bulbs, fixing plug fixtures, repairing lamps, and irons. B akery . At the present time there are four boys who work in the morning division and five who work in the afternoon division. The production of bread varies by days. Some times just 120 loaves are made; other times as much as 250 are made. This is done because of the mak ing of hot rolls and muffins for the noon meals. A special birthday cake is made each month for Winona hall and special orders are filled out such as: jelly doughnuts, maple bars, and cakes for dan ces and other activities. C arpentery : The carpenters have taken to out side work now that the weather has grown warmer. Under Forman BearChum, R. Brady, Chuck Sams, D. Ellsworth, "Chop Suey” Davis, and Bing Tyler have finished shingling one half of the James’ cottage. P. Davis and W. Teton have been working on shel ves in the Employees Club. "Blow” BearChum, R. Brady and "wil” Teton have started on the pageant platform. G irls V ocations : Over one-half of Mrs. C. John son’s 9-A B and C classes have completed their flannel pajamas and have started sport blouses. Marceil Tom, Ruby Whitright, Cleo Picard, and Audrey Thorpe made simple Confirmation dresses. The seventh grade Every day Living class, under the supervision of Mrs. Johnson, are studying flow er arrangements, and are still checking each other daily for self-improvement. Mrs. Pepper is teaching Audrey Thorpe and Kath leen Young how to make burnt jewel boxes. Each has almost completed theirs. Mrs. Sanders’ seventh graders are making slips and nightgowns for themselves. The advanced class are making crocheted articles for the end of the term. Her Red Cross class is completing work on hand. Mrs. Cronks’ 10-C class in Foods have completed luncheon units and have started on desserts. Mrs. James’ Saturday morning group has been making drapes for Brewer Hall and have completed those for the office and halls. They have just the reading rooms to finish. The junior girls that have completed their Prom dresses and slips are making wool projects. Clara Choates has started a wool jacket. Others have start ed crocheting themselves caps. The eighth graders are making print dresses and those who have finished have started on slips. The Crafters are weaving caps for themselves. Those that have completed them are: Luella Wilson, Margaret Murphy, and Edith Skahan. Myrtle Percival has finished a woven belt. Emma Pohipe has completed one pair of drapes for the office and is re-threading her loom for another pair. Ruby Iron has completed her Swedish weaving and has started weaving some placemats. The majority of the senior girls have completed their graduation dresses and are working on their slips. Kathryn Jones, Dorthy Clark and June Sim mons are in the Senior Practice House for the next two weeks. The junior girls in Miss Whites class have paint ed and enameled the tables in their room. They have also prepared and served various dinners for the past two weeks. A buffet dinner was given to the Civic Players from Salem on Wednesday. Freshmen Sponsor Benefit Dance The freshmen gave their benefit dance Saturday night, April 11, in the gym which was gayly deco rated with balloons and greenery. With the music being furnished by the Rhythm Chiefs, the large crowd enjoyed the evening of dancing.
