They had been to M ollala, w here th e Buckaroos spurred them for a 31-19 defeat, k n o ck in g th e m from th e top-spot they h e ld in th e W V I league. In ab ility to connect w ith th e pay circle proved to be th e red sk in s un-doing. T hey could find th e range w ith b u t seven shots out of fifty-one tries. Some consolation was found in th e “ C hieflets” 22-8 victory, thereby keeping th eir undefeated prestige. Redmen Conquer Dragons A fter a hectic first half, th e R edm en came stam ping back in to th e second h alf to hem p a 35-23 victory over a fiery D ragon q u in t from Dallas, Friday n ig h t, Jan. 13. The Indians, after a h a lf tim e pow-wow, came back an d started to ream hem p w ith Backbone hooping eleven counters to w in scoring honors for the “ C hiefs.” This win placed th e racin g R edskins on top of th e W VI league. T he “ Baby C hiefs” rom ped to an easy win over the D allas seconds by tally in g a 45-20 w in. F allsdow n,fleet pappoose, filled 18 hoops to win scoring honors. The R edskins, led by W oundedeye, held the Bulldogs a t bay un til six m in u tes of the th ird quarter. A lthough th e Bulldogs were in possession of the ball m ost of the tim e, they were unable to penetrate th e w arrior defense. W oundedeye, lanky center, bucketed 10 counters for th e braves. In a last m inute rally th e Pappooses started th e m erry- go-round rolling by w inning a 17-19 victory from the W oodburn Bees w ith Fallsdow n sw ishing a long one w ith less th a n a m inute to go, to p u t th e gam e on ice. Judges Descision Irks Fight Fans W ally Larios took an unpopular ju d g e s’ decision from D an Snipe in the m ain event, Jan. 12, at th e Salem A rm ory. Larios was given a terrific scrap from sta rt to finish by Snipe and th e STATESM AN gave Snipe a w in. The sem i-w indup saw CYO’s light-heavyw eight, K el- la r W agner, kayo Cobell of Chemawa in one m inute and and 15 seconds of the th ird round. Cobell was gam e to th e last. Glen Black, clever p uncher of Chemawa, cleanly out- boxed G ordon H arold for a clean decision. H arold E ngblom knocked out R edelk, gam e Chemawa boy, in 50 seconds of the th ird heat. K eith Peterson punched a narrow decision over M ireau of Chemawa. Arthur WVI and City Champ Taylor A rth u r, ru n n er-u p in the S tate W restling T our nam ent, and the W V I w restling cham pion, won over Snider for th e city C ham pionship. Both w eighed in at 105 lbs. Indians Rout Berrypickers On Tuesday n ig h t, Ja n u a ry 10, th e Chemawa Chiefs tied an o th er scalp to th e ir coup stick w ith Backbone cratin g 29 counters to b reak a new one gam e scoring record. T he Chiefs proceeded to take th e berries away from th e Lebanon Berry pickers by stam peding them to win 68-37 an d th e ir th ird stra ig h t W V I victory. The Chemawa Bee team rom ped to a 45-15 win over th e L ebanon seconds w ith V an P elt p eltin g in 21 sw ishers for th e “ p appooses.” Chiefs Scalp Bulldogs G astineau’s Chiefs won th e L eauge’s opener by m a rk in g a 25-7 win over th e W oodburn B ulldogs. 10 years ago Four of our boys atten d ed the O lder Boys’ Conference in Salem la st w eek. R uth y n T urney, both of Chemawa, took place on A ugust 11, at the M ethodist parsonage, in Salem , R everand R. N. Avi- son officiating. Only th e closest friends, inclu d in g S uper in te n d e n t an d M rs. H all, besides M rs. Brew er an d Lou- lin , w itnessed the beautiful cerem ony. Y e e a - a SCOUTS! It seems as though Scout master A rnoux is getting more and more boys to join his troop every day.
