T he CHEMAWA AMERICAN ◄---------------------- ---- ------ ► * From the Dormitories • ◄--------------------------------- ► BREWER HALL Early Wednesday morning, 6:15 to be exact, the commands of “Squads right, squads left,” were to be heard on the athletic field. Why? Because Brewer Hall had its first drill session of the year under the able leadership of Dowd Franklin and Karl Mueller. Those early morning drills are to be conducted twice a week. Most of the Brewer Hall boys who were ill with the flu are back in the dormitories again and our ranks are back to normal. WINONA HALL The rooms receiving the most excellent marks were room 1, Emma Celestine, Mildred Smith, and room 3, Nina Jack, Amelia Olin. Our girls willingly gave up their reading room for a dormitory. Marie Whiteclay was received last week with open arms. There are now 213 members in our building. We do hope it is not an unlucky number. We are sorry to lose one of our members, Amelia Olin, who has gone to Toppenish, Washington to a sanatorium. We hope her stay there will not be long. The girls are taking up a collection to get tubes for our radio. Come on Winona Hall girls, “help the poor.” Alice Ladderoute and Emma Celestine ran off with flying colors in the election for representives of Win ona Hall at committee meetings. mcbride hall McBride now has new burglar alarms. However when you push the button, instead of the alarm, the lights come on. After a stay of two weeks in the hospital, Mae Law- son, is glad to get back in the dormitory. HAWLEY HALL Mrs. Galbreath visited her daughter, Catherine Mc Govern last week. We expect to do big things this year with Maxine Paquette and Ardis Owens as representatives of stu dent committee. We have added to our assessments eight new show ers. We are asking you to watch our pace, Chemawa. Last week a demonstrator for the Wesson Oil Com pany demonstrated salad arrangements and dressing for the senior classes. Miss Strauch’s senior and sophomore food classes gave a reception in honor of the freshman girls. Games were played and two dramatic pieces were spoken by Catherine Bailey. Mary Slater danced a tap dance. The evening proved a real success and everyone enjoyed it. The boys who helped put the D. S. department in order during the summer were entertained at dinner by the senior girls of the D. S. department on Friday evening. The much needed improvements are greatly appreciated by everyone. At present there are six units arranged at one side of the room which makes a more convenient arrangement. The other end of the room has two unit kitchens where the girls practice in making and serving a meal without direction.
