B uchert, forw ard, was way out of form and was unable to locate th e basket, w hile G eorge did not get going anyw ay near usual form till the second half, alth o u g h both had num erous chances. A braham p u t u p his usual good gam e at g uard w hile his side p a rtn e r, P h in n ey , played far below par and allow ed his man to m ake several easy baskets. D andro G eorge was our high m an w ith 12 points. T h e rest were m ade by B uchert, DePoe and P h in n ey , w ith one field basket apiece. T h e team w ork and passing of th e ball by ou r tos- sers was unbeatable, but th e ir in ab ility to h it the basket and the failure to keep one m an under our goal spelled our defeat. N orw est replaced B uchert at forw ard in the latter p art of the gam e. O U R G IR L S D E F E A T S IL V E R T O N ’S Q U IN T E T O ur girls played the prelim inary to the boys’ gam e at Silverton last T h u rsd ay n ig h t and cam e hom e w ith the long end of the 31 to 13 score d an g lin g from th eir belt. It was a cracker jack of a gam e. Coach Rose Downie took along seven players and each one played an^ im p o rtan t p art in th e defeat of th eir w hite sisters. Those who made the trip are as follows: M adeline W ilder, M aud P o tts, G race M origeau, O ka P aulina, Daisy Ballard, Cecelia Sm ith, Cora Black and Coach Downie. Silverton has alw ays been know n for th e ir sw ift basketball team s and it has become the habit in the last fe w years for our girls to set th eir traps for Silver- ton and for a long tim e now they have succeeded, but never before have they been quite so successful as they were last T h u rsd ay n ig h t. W ilder and Downie, forw ards; M origeau, center; P au lin a and B allard, g u ard s; started the gam e and waded rig h t in w ith the first pop out of the box. T h e clever passing of our tw o forw ards and center was too m uch for Silverton to solve. T hese three have the passing gam e w orked up to w here it is an a rt. Silver- ton, seem ingly, could not find them till the ball was in th e basket. S lippery as eels we would say. E arly in the first period when onr team had a safe lead th e coach sent P otts in at forw ard; S m ith , center; and Black, g u ard , and each one displaved her wares well. A lthough playing a losing gam e th e S ilverton team “ carried o n ’’ and put up a plucky fight to the end. Rose H am ilton, a form er m em ber of the W inona literarv society o f Chem aw a, is now Mrs. M ilton E . Mo re and is living in B row ning, M ontana. She has a baby girl nine m onths old and has nam ed it Wi nona in honor of her society. D uring the tw o-w eeks’ absence of M rs.
