O ne year the Y ale U niversity boat crew beat th e H arvard crew. Som e-one asked the stroke-oar man of the Y ale crew how they did it. H e answ ered: “ It is easy enough. All you have to do is to take the ‘get- there stro k e ’ and stick to it. ” A fter all is said and done th e young man or woman w ho sticks is th e one who succeeds. SE N IO R NOTES Now th at the excitem ent is over every senior present is w orking as hard as he can. G eom etry is at last becom ing in terestin g and we like to work out the puzzling proofs. T he seniors are proud of R obert Johnson as he won the debate in the R eliance open session. F ran k Johnson was chosen as one o f the delegates to the Y .M .C .A . conference held at E u g en e the week end. M innie P ataw a and C arney F rench are in th e hos pital. W e are all hoping they will be in sciiool as soon as possible. G eorge P hinney and Robert Johnson of the class of ’23 both took part in the R eliance open session and both did their p arts well. Did you ever try to w rite a news item? I t ’s a funny s tu n t to do. Y ou have a head full of news to w rite and when you do w rite it dow n there seems to be no new s at all. Such is the life of a reporter T he senior girls have all com pleted th e ir new uniform s and are w orking on the uniform s for the other girls who do not w otk in th e sew ing room . T hey are sp endin g a part of th eir tim e m aking h andkerchiefs. O ne dav last week w hile we were in the d in in g -h all th e bell ran g and everyone quieted dow n. A note had been picked up and b ro u g h t to Miss S k ip to n . T h e fun began when the note was read aloud to everybody. W ho was “ Jim ? ” W here did the note come from? W ho was it for? T hese were some of the questions asked. It tu rn ed o u t later to be an ad v ertisin g s tu n t p u t up by th e n a u g h ty seniors for their play. T h at w as all. T h e w earing of the class caps to supper last W ed nesday was a dedication as well as an advertisem ent for the senior play. T h e dedication was of the five new caps made for those who did not have one. E very one possesses a head dress now. DOMESTIC AR T D EPA R TM EN T T h e hospital nurses have new uniform s, w hich w ere m ade in the P revocational sew ing room . T h e little m enders certainly appreciate their new room , now th a t they can have their own sew ing m achines. T h e prevocational sew ing-room girls have made some p retty ru g s and pillow covers. L ena Swan and M arth a T itsler are the w eavers. T h e dom estic art girls are very busy try in g to com plete th e M cBride Hall uniform s before C hristm as. T h ey are made plain but very attractiv e and becom ing to the girls. T h e senior girls, as well as th e other grade girls, are progressing in th e ir w ork. M rs. Canfield has m any new ideas th is year w hich she is teach in g to th e girls and we are m uch in terested , as well as she. T h e senior girls, who are now in the Dom estic art, are stu d y in g on different kinds of m aterial. A t present we are stu d y in g silks and find it very in terestin g . W e only wish we w ere in Japan to w atch the silk w orm s. E very one is welcome to visit our sale room w hich is packed full of prettv th in g s on lines th a t will m ake good presents. All the articles are m ade by the girls, and you will get som ething w orth w hile and at very reasonable prices. DOMESTIC SCIENCE NOTES T h e F resh ies are very in d u strio u s and take a great deal of in terest in th e ir w ork. W e expect to sta rt cooking one meal a day n e x t w eek. E e t’s hope no one overeats. As soon as th e cupboards are p u t in each girl w ho cooks will have her own individual kitchen w ith all its eq u ip m en t. W e find th ere is no such a th in g as in d u strial tra in in g w ith o ut th e academ ic. W e use academ ic train in g every day in o u r w ork. T h is has been a busy week for Dom estic Science housekeepers, cleaning up after th e plum bers, who have been p u ttin g in o u r six new sin k s. H ousekeepers N o .l have some nice new sinks to keep clean I t w on’t be a job, b u t a pleasure to clean sinks like those in the D om estic Science. Each girl w ants to take a prize in cooking, but there has been a few discouragem ents in the way of b u rn t cakes. W e d o n ’t know who to blam e for it, eith er. W e can bl »me th e stoves, th e good coal, and cooks, but we shall have to leave it for you to decide. N ora G ray holds the honor of having baked th e best cake m ade b\ B Division girls. Bv the way, w hile we are ta lk in g about Ju n io rs, w e’ll sav th at there are six of them try in g to catch up in cooking, respectively, N ora G ray, C larrisa G eorge, Ada Ball, Eva O ’Bryan, E d n a Crofoot and E uella W illiam s.
