Could it be the senior play? A new face appeared in the senior room last T uesday and was gladly welcomed. M. AND Y. W. C. A. NOTES T he I. T . C. now has a m em bership of 75 small boys, who pack the “ Y ” room to the doors every W ed n es day evening. Ju lian Sm ith was recently elected p res ident of this club. Last T u esd ay evening the Y .W .C .A . cabinet g irls were entertain ed by Miss E ak in . T h e re g u la r cabinet business was disposed of and then gam es and eats were enjoyed by the g irls. “ You and Y our F ath er and M o th e r” was a topic th a t resulted in a very live and w orthw hile discussion at the last m eeting of th e Y .W .C .A . under th e able leadership of A ddie M errill. In com m on w ith all th e o th er Y .M .C .A . groups th ro u g h o u t the w orld, city, stu d e n t, and in d u stria l, th e C hem aw a Y .M .C .A . observed N ovem ber 12 to 19 as the W eek of P ray er, by sh o rt noonday m eetings in the “ Y ” room each day d u rin g the w eek, w ith d if ferent m em bers of the cabinet as leaders. A feature of the Clim bers Club program last week was a debate on the question, “ Resolved, T h a t an In d ian boy has an advantage over a w hite boy in th e line of e d u c a tio n .” R am ond H ald an e and Rod H ill w ere th e affirm ative team and Jesse M organ and Royal H olst th e negative. Both team s presented good a rg u m ent w hich show ed th o u g h t and p rep aratio n . A new , advanced T eacher T ra in in g class is being o r ganized for those S unday School teachers who have com pleted th e elem entary course. T h e new class will tak e up th e sta n d ard three-year course w hich has been adopted by all th e P ro testan t denom inations, for the com pletion of w hich diplom as are given by th e I n tern atio n al S unday School A ssociation. T hose eli gible for th is class are Rose G ray, M illie B en n ett, C arrie A nderson and W allace M organ. ACADEMIC NOTES Miss M allory told th e A division the sto ry of tw o friends and th e effective m eans one of them used to reveal to his fallen friend the errors of his w ays. Miss Lam b and Miss C onnelly were elected to speak to th e stu d e n ts n ext W ednesday. A lth ough Miss W h ite gave w arn in g th a t she “ was not going to p re a c h ” to the B division in the school assem bly, we found tuck ed away in th e story of h er visit to the w onderland of K odiak a very good serm on. S u rp risin g as th e suggestion m ay be, each one of us is very m uch like a can of salm on. As Miss W h ite stated , if the can gets out of th e place in w hich it should travel it jam s th e m achinery and stops th e p la n t. F olks do about the sam e th in g w’hen they desert th e ir post. DOMESTIC SCIENCE NOTES A good m any visitors pass th ro u g h our d ep a rtm en t and it is g ratify in g to hear them com m ent so favorably on the tra in in g w hich th e girls are receiving. O ur d ep artm en t has been som ew hat d istu rb e d of late ow ing to the necessary plum bing, carp en ter and p ain tin g w ork in progress, but we are now seeing the light and are rejoicing over th e appearance as well as the facilities afforded for advanced w ork. All of the plum bing m aterial w ith w hich to th o ro u g h ly equip the new class room s in th e dom estic science departm ent have arrived. T here are six k itchens a r ranged for, w ith all ap p aratu s necessary, and not only Mrs. B rickell, teacher, but the stu d en ts also are e n th u siastic over the splendid outlook. T h e second period for ch anging g irls ’ details was effective M onday. T h e Seniors and Ju n io rs, who have rotated d u rin g the period ju st ended in th e dom estic science, go to th e dom estic art d ep artm en t, w hile th e 7th graders take up dom estic science. T hese g irls appear very eager to learn and are giving th eir best effort to get th e best th e re is in their grade. A 9th grad er offered the follow ing advice to a 7th grader who had been detailed to the dom estic science d epartm ent: A lw ays put on your colored apron w hen you scrub, and rem em ber th at th e q u ality of any w ork perform ed by you show s w hether you use your brain or not; th in k in g is a splendid exercise and develops vour brain. It was F red erick th e G reat w ho said: “ If my soldiers w ould reallv th in k , not one of them would rem ain in the r a n k s .”
