M r. and M rs. H enderson atten d ed th e m eeting of
O dd Fellow s and R ebekahs, w hich convened in A lbany
last w eek. D u rin g th eir absence Mr. and M rs. M c­
Leod were in charge of th e store.
G overnor O lcott will present the d iplom as to the
g ra d u a tin g class th is year and D r. Carl G. D oney,
P resid en t of W illam ette U n iv ersity , will deliver tHe
baccalaureate serm on. M r. F red L ockley gives the
g rad u atin g address.
Mr. and Mrs. R. W . B row n, of M ontgom ery C ity,
M o., and M r. and M rs. T hom as Brow n of P o rtlan d ,
O regon, w ere guests of M rs. V a n d a g riftre c e n tly . T h e
form er Mr. Brown was a schoolm ate of M rs. V anda-
g rift and he is now a banker in his home city.
M rs. V an d ag rift th a n k s the F ates for g iv in g h er two
such splendid details, as she says the girls are as nearly
perfect as it is possible for hum an beings to be. From
her em phatic statem en ts we feel certain she m eant
ju s t w hat she said. P retty good, girls!
W ord has reached us to th e effect th a t Ju lia Stevens
will g rad u ate from the H arlem , M ontana, high school
th is year. A couple of y ears ago she atten d ed school
at C hem aw a and m any frien d s here will be pleased to
learn of her co n tin u ed stu d y and advancem ent.
M rs. H all had one of her inform al “ drop in ” affairs
S unday evening after chapel at her hom e. A bout
th irty of th e em ployes stopped in on th eir w ay from
chapel to meet Mr. and M rs. P etri and M r. Jeffreys,
of P o rtlan d , who w ere week end gu est of M r. and
M rs. T u rn e y . L ig h t refresh m en t w ere served.
Mr. and M rs. P au l P e tri, gifted m usicians, and M r.
W illiam Jeffreys, a brother of M rs. P etri, p ro m in en t
P o rtlan d people, sp en t the w eek-end w ith C hem aw a
friends. T hey are m uch in love w ith our school and
everybody and ev ery th in g p erta in in g to it. T h ey are
so charm in g and affable in every sense th a t th ey win
friends everyw here and we w ere all delighted to have
them w ith us on th is occasion.

On last W ednesday afternoon our baseball team d e ­
feated the W illam ette U niversity B earcats on Sw eet-
land Field 3 to 1, w hich m arks our second victory
over W . U. th is season, having defeated them here 1
to 0.
O ur batsm en encountered little difficulty in con­
n e c tin g w ith Irv in e ’s “ fast o n es” and bunched th ree
hits in the second in n in g and scored two ru n s. Bettles
held th e W . U. h itte rs up in great style, allow ingthem
but one ru n , w hich was m ade by Shafer in the th ird
in n in g on a w ild pitch, three hits, and strik in g out 12
m en.
In the eig h th in n in g Sam pson followed A tk in s’ single
w ith a tw o-bagger over second base, scoring A tkins
from second for the th ird tally.
T h e gam e was fast and scrappy th ro u g h o u t as is
alw ays th e case w hen we m eet W . U. H av in g defeated
them in th e first gam e and then given them a severe
tro u n c in g in th e track m eet the Bearcats were prim ed
to take o u r scalps, but the boys were too m uch for
Coach M atth ew s’ m en and at no tim e did the B ear­
cats g et dangerous.

Pacific U niversity upset th e dope last F rid ay after -
th e noun w hen she tookthe baseball aggregation into
cam p by a 6 to 4 score.
It w as an ideal day for a baseball gam e and the
w hole of F orest G ro v e’s population it seem ed tu rn ed
out to w itness th e battle, and a b attle it was to the end.
T he team jo u rn ey ed over via P o rtlan d in m achines
an d had it not been for th e black cat th a t crossed our
p ath we feel sure th e score w ould have been different
and probably o u r driv er w ould not have gotten
“ p in c h e d ” for sp e e d in .’ M aybe th ere is no jin x in a
black cat, but we th in k th ere is, for the team did not
g et one break d u rin g th e en tire gam e and P. U. got
three ru n s on passed balls. A t any rate it was an e x ­
citin g gam e; full of th rills.
A lth o u g h Joe was h it a little h ard er than usual he
pitched a good gam e, strik in g out twelve m en and al­
low ing b u t five h its, w hile his team m ates played ra th e r
raggedly and did not give him the usual good support.
In all seven errors were chalked up against th e team .
Shelly for P. U . stru ck out seven m en and was found
for seven hits. C h o ate’s three-base h it was the feature
of th e gam e.
F rid ay we will play a re tu rn gam e w ith P . U. on
th e hom e g o unds, w hich will also be our last gam e
here th is season.

On S a tu rd a y ou r baseball tossers took th eir spite
o u t on th e p risoners at th e sta te penitentiary in th e
th ird gam e of th e week for losing th e gam e to P. U.
on F rid a y .
Dan L aw rence ascended the m ound for Chem awa
and w on his gam e by a 5 to 3 score, strik in g out 11
m en, allow ing but 6 h its w hile his team m ates played
tru e to form and m ade but three errors and sounded
th e O. S. P . p itcher for 14 hits. P eter Lloyd h it one
for th ree bases over left field in the fo u rth in n in g ,
but was called out for not to u ch in g second base.
