PAGE 4 T H E C H E M A W A A M E R IC A N ITEMS FROM THE TRADES T he farm ers have received th eir pow der bags and will be busy m ak in g charges to blast o u t stu m p s next week. T he p ain ters have begun p rim in g th e ex terio r of th e new m achine shop. T h ey have some glass to set there also. At present they are finishing th e bakery. Potatoes are all in th e root house. So are lots of other th in g s. Besides m uch in the root house th ere is a q u a n tity at th e k itch en . T h e gardeners are m uch in dem and. T he blacksm iths are se ttin g th eir house in order, not to d ep art th is life, but to begin w ork on a larger scale w ith better arran g em en t and eq u ip m en t, now th a t the new floor is in th eir shop. T he yard boys are proud of th e ir railroad at the wood yard an d it has saved a great deal of w ork in b rin g in g th e wood to the saw. T h e best p art of it is th a t th ere is enough of a grad e at th e shed to get a free rid e back to th e wood pile. I t is great sp o rt. H ave you tried it? A num ber of th e boys in th e carp en try d ep artm en t have begun on th e problem s they drafted in m echan ical draw in g . T h ere are some excellent projects to be w orked o u t by these boys. T h ey recently m ade several tables for th e dining-room and will soon begin on the rem odeling of the old office b u ild in g and the garages at the co ttag e of th e engineer and blacksm ith. W hen you com e in the play room and th ree or four of you lean u p ag ain st the rad iato r, and som e one pushes som eone else, and he comes back w ith a h arder push and the radiator begins to dance on the floor, you are m aking trouble and w ork for the plum bers and engineers, the m atrons, and perhaps yourself. S tra in in g the rad iato r m akes it leak. T h e plum bers have it to repair. W hen it leaks it spoils th e floor and m akes work for the m atron. E very leak m akes it h ard er for the vacuum pum p to take the w ater away so th a t m ore steam can come into th e radiator to heat it. So, have your rough play outside.
