T h e “ C ” was bestowed upon the follow ing track m en: Janies C hoate, Axel Johnson A lbert Spearson and G eorge T hom as. On F rid ay evening the exercises ended in a social in the gym nasium . It was p articip ated in bv stu d e n ts, faculty and visitors and w as an affair in w hich m irth and happiness reigned. T oo m uch credit cannot be given to all concerned who had any p art in the w eek ’s program and th e m anagem ent w ishes to acknow ledge his appreciation. COMMENCEMENT NOTES Bob Downie, ex -stu d en t, who was stu d e n t body president two years ago, was a visitor d u rin g the w eek . M r. G ordon H obucket, an ex-em ploye and g rad u ate of Chem aw a, now’ clerk at th e Blackfeet A gency, spent last week with us. Miss H allie C halcraft, of Siletz A gency, d a u g h te r of S u p erin ten d en t C halcraft, has been v isitin g friends on th e cam pus for the past tw’o weeks. PA G E 3 E lizabeth R ainville of P endleton, O regon, and B ertha G rim es of C rescent C ity, C alifornia, Class ’19, were in attendance at the com m encem ent doings. T h e A lum ni spent S aturday at Lincoln park on the W illam ette river. T h ey report a wonderful day, boating, sw im m ing and ath letic stu n ts. A splendid picnic lunch was enjoyed. M r. and Mrs. T u rn e y are deserving of u n stin ted praise for the splendid m usical program s d u rin g the th e w’eek and gave freely of th e ir tim e and stren g th in p erfectin g the various orchestral num bers, choruses, solos, octettes, and glee club num bers. T his estim able couple are valued em ployes at Chem aw a. C om plim entary rem arks w ere heard from our many visitors concerning ou r w ell-kept and beautifully d ec orated d in in g hall. Miss Skipton alw ays keeps her d in in g room beyond criticism . T he end of th e d in in g room occupied by the sen io rs’ table, as well as visitors, was decorated in the senior and Chem aw a colors. A fter the exercises on T h u rsd ay evening a recep tion in honor of th e 19 g rad u ates and G overnor and an d M rs. O lcott and Mr. Fred Locklev was given by S u p erin ten d e n t and M rs. H all in th eir spacious p a r lors. T h ere w’ere q u ite a num ber of Chemaw’a asw ’ell as outside guests. T h ey w ere all charm ed w ith the ladylike and g entlem anly bearing of the m em bers of th e class. T h e beautiful costum es w orn by the girls in the o p eretta and class play were m ade in th e dom estic art d ep artm en t u n d er the efficient direction of M rs. Can- field. T hose w orn by the boys w’ere m anufactured by M r. Jam es in the tailor shop. Mrs. S herm an, head m atro n , had charge of the arran g em en t and most capably did she m anage this im portant part of the program . T h e long deferred banquet for the athletes, w hich has been postponed for unavoidable reasons, took form in a p arty for the athletes and th eir friends on S a tu r day evening in the gym . E laborate refreshm ents w’ere served. L arge photographs of th e various a th letic team s w’ere presented to S u p erin ten d en t and Mrs. H all as a token of appreciation for th eir support and in terest. A dem onstration dinner cooked and served by Julia F ratis, a senior in home econom ics, at the hom e of M rs. H all, was given on T uesday evening. It was a seven-course d in n er, deliciously cooked and faultlessly served. T h e guests w ere P rof. Devol, Mrs. Sherm an, M rs. B rickell, Miss W h ite, Miss H en d rix , Mrs. Ris- ser and S u p erin ten d e n t and M rs. H all, all of whom p ronounced it a ch arm in g d in n er, such as very few’ house wives are capable of giving. Ju lia is a splendid cook and an all-round good girl.
