In the basketball relay betw een the Seniors and Ju n io rs, the Ju n io rs defeated the Senior girls, but in th e b o y s’ contest th e Seniors defeated th e Juniors. E ach year this contest is looked forw ard to by th e stu d e n ts with as m uch enthusiasm and in terest as the A n n u al W orld Series in Basketball. Brewer H all has sallied forth w ith th e honors for th e last few years and th e general opinion favored Brewer to duplicate th e trick . All dope was upset, w ith the score at th e end of the first half 19 to 11 in favor of Brewer and defeat alm ost in sigh t for M itchell. M itchell took a brace in the second half and had a real “ come b a c k .” T h e team s played for all th ey could give; N ix w as shifted to tor- w ard for M itchell and th ro u g h h is sh o o tin g baskets soon p u t M itchell in th e ru n n in g and overtook the lead Brew er had. W hen the final w histle blew the w inning streak of Brew er had ended and M itchell H all took the bacon ho m e” — score 33 to 29. T he Shop L eague composed of th e B lacksm iths, D airym en, P ain ters, E ng in eers and C arp en ters played the series d u rin g the holiday afternoons for th e cham pionship of Chem aw a and th e C up th at was offered by H au ser Bros. T hese gam es were hotly contested and th e ad h eren ts of each team were there w ith th e ir su p p o rt. T here seemed to be more enthusiasm in th ese hom e gam es th an th e outside gam es. T he band was th e re at each gam e to add to the occasion and we appreciated the m usic. T h e B lacksm iths won th e honors and did not suffer a single defeat. T he closest they cam e to being defeated w as in the gam e w ith th e D airym en, when at the close of the gam e th e score w as a tie and an e x tra five m inutes were played to decide th e gam e, th e B lacksm iths w inning out by a score of 26 to 24. Jo h n so n for the B lacksm iths was in ju red in th e gam e w ith th e P ain ters and was unable to finish th e series w ith his team , Berry rep lacin g him as cen- ter. Because of the holiday a c tivities th e re was no prepared program so the president asked for volunteers. T h ere w asan excellent response. R uby W h ite, C arrie A nderson, A nn S exton, Lucy S ex to n , E d n a H ill and H attie M artin gave recitations. C h arlo tte B rennier and A gnes H enderson sang a m erry little song. F lorence G ensaw sang. M ildred H oover played th e m andolin, E m m a Carlson the m o u th h arp , and Louise S ilverthorne, A nn S exton and A nnie M il ler san g a trio. Jessie Cleveland read th e “ W inona W ar W h o o p .” T h e visitors, Mr. and Mrs. F itch of C orvallis, and M rs. Brickell, spoke very encourage- in g ly of th e splendid school spirit of C hem aw a. V iola Beyers then led th e society in songs and yells, clos in g w ith the Color song. Reliance T h e R eliance L iterary Society held its m eeting in room 6 on F riday evening, Ja n u a ry 2, 1920, Vice- P re sid e n t’S hepard presiding. A fter th e business rout- tin e , a sh o rt program followed. G eorge T hom as gave an essay, A llan S hepard and W illiam K ennedy an in stru m en tal duet and th e society sang an d gave yells. M r. Ja m e s,o u r visitor, gave an enco u rag in g ta lk , as did our advisor, Miss McDowell. T h e society a d journed early. VOCATIONAL DOMESTIC SCIENCE NOTES A nna P eratrovich is w ith us again after a few d a y s’ absence on account of sickness. T h e D om estic Science girls are very th a n k fu l to M rs. B rickell for the box of hom e-m ade candy she gave them for C hristm as. Delora K eeler is absent from the Domestic Science. S he is on th e sick list. Delora is greatly m issed and we all wish her a speedy recovery. T h e D om estic Science 2nd year vocational girls, D ivision B .g a v e two dinners last w eek, one e n te rta in ing a few of th e em ployes of th e cam pus on F rid ay evening and one on S aturday evening for th e visitin g basketball team of R oseburg. T hey are now p rep ar in g to serve dinner for tw en ty -fo u r stu d en ts on T h u rs day evening.
