D uring th is tim e only the vocational and such o th er w ork as w as necessary was carried o n — the period was given over to relaxation and various function s w hich m ade th e C hristm as week really one of jov and w orth com bined. All had a good tim e we are sure. T h e events connected w ith our C hristm as o b se r vation really sta rted on th e S unday preceding C h rist mas, but m ention was m ade of th is en te rta in m e n t— a pag ean t —in o u r last issue so we will pass it over here. O n C hristm as E ve th e various grades w ere afforded an o p p o rtu n ity to present features and “ s tu n ts ” relatin g to the season an d for an hour they en tertain ed those present w ith a varied program . E arly C hristm as m orning m em bers of th e choir ushered in th e day and 'Jo y to the W o rld ” by s in g ing carols. A sta rt was m ade at the home of S u p t. and Mrs. H all and from there th e carol singers visited nearly the entire g ro u n d s and sang to the d elig h t of all. From w hat we learned it appears th at the g e n eral verdict is th a t the singers w ere in u n u su ally good voice and th a t the carols were never more beautifully su n g at Chem aw a. A fter sin g in g carols the vocalists repaired to th e C atholic C hapel w here th ey sang for F ath er G all, who conducted early m ass. A t 5:45 o ’clock on C hristm as m orn the p resen ts w ere d istrib u ted in the various b u ild in g s— each d o r m itory having a tree. S upt. H all had taken care th a t all should receive a pleasing g ift of some ch aracter and he certain ly deserves co n g ratu latio n s on his su c cesses on th is occasion. N o-one was forgotten and w hen all assem bled in th e large dining hall there was happiness rad iatin g from every face. T h e room d u r in g breakfast was full of toys of every description, for all th e little girls appeared w ith th eir new ly-acquired baby dolls and the little boys had w ith them toys of every description. It was a m erry C hristm as break fast. A t 10:00 A .M . th e band u n d er direction of M r. No. 13 I Loos gave a m ost pleasing serenade, passing from one to an o th er of the various dorm itories and buildings. All appreciated the efforts of th e band boys and their pleasing music. At noon there was a splendid dinner for th e s tu d en ts and nearly all of the faculty m em bers were in a t ten d an ce and assisted in some way to m ake th e occa sion m em orable. T h e G irls’ M andolin Club, directed bv M r. Loos, was in atten d an ce and played th ro u g h o u t the m eal, thereby adding greatly to the joy of the occasion. W e wish rig h t here to declare th a t S upt. H all sets a m ighty good table— year in and year out — and these special d in n ers are indeed unusually fine. I t m ust also be stated th a t M rs. Brewer and Miss S kipton who have ch arg e of the preparation and serv ing of these m eals are deserving of the highest praise for th eir efficiency and care. T h e girls who con stitu te th e ir d etails are also deserving of th a n k s. T h e large d in in g hall was artistically decorated and never looked m ore beautiful than on this occasion. T he follow ing sp len d id m enu was served: R oast Pork D ressing Brown G ravy M ashed Potatoes C andied Sw eat Potatoes E scalloped Corn C elery P ickles A pple Jelly A pples L ay er C ake A pple Sauce O ran g es M ince Pie Coffee B eginning on C hristm as afternoon and lastin g a l most th ro u g h o u t the holiday week there were a series of basketball gam es for th e cham pionship of the school, th e com peting team s being representative of different shops or d ep artm en ts. Record of the various athletic activities will t>e m ade under another head. A t the big gym nasium in the evening th ere was a social for the large stu d en ts. It proved a joyous oc casion-in every w a y —good w ill, good w ishes, joy, m irth , m errim ent, cheer all com bined made th e oc casion one to rem em bered alw ays.
