Mrs, Brewer purchased 7,5 baby chicks last week with funds received from the ice cream sale held re cently. She is working hard in order to make up a large flock of chickens for the school ranch. Irving Tom is kept busy after work hours each evening trimming- up the rough spots on the raçe îtrack and ball field. He does his work faithfully,,and does it well. The boys appreciate this interest. j Allan Shepard and Logan Fann, both of the class of ; ¡K f work hand in hand when there are banners to be made. Allan designs the banner at the printing office while Logan at the tailor shop puts it on cloth. Word has been received from Martin Colby, dne of our boys who enlisted and who is now in France in the Marine corps. He likes the country over there fine, but says it rains more there than it does in Orégon. On Sunday, Mr. and Mrs. Henderson, trader at this school, left for Seaside, O regon,’ where they will take a week’s vacation. Mr. McLeod will bê' in charge of the store during his absence, with the help of the boyS who now work there. d n Saturday our track team will journey to Salem and compete with the W illamette University team on the Willamette field. Our team is practically of all new men and they will need all thé representatives from the school & that can possibly attend to cheer them On. , ’ The Commencement spirit is stirred up throughout the school and everyone is talking of the happenings to come. You will be kept on the tips of your toes froih'the time you get up on Sunday morning the 2d until Friday night the 7th if you attend all activities Commencement week. The Brewer Hall ball team, which defeated the strong Mitchell Hall team some weeks ago, are now preparing for the commencement week game. The Brewer' Hall boys defeated the Mitchell Hall boys in all lines of sport and they expect to do so again. Give your “ rahs” for Brewer Hall. The Junior Class was very much interested when Dr. Hail man, the medical supervisor, examined the eyes of the pupils in that class. After he would ex aminé a n e y e he wpuijà give some medical term and then ask the class if the term was familiar. Having studied chemistry many of the terms were familiar and the class did not fail to let him know which ones. ■ Stanley Webster and William Weaver visited Che- mawa and friends on Tuesday'last.- William is con nected With the Merchants’, Marine at Astoria, Oregon. • Rube Sanders, who has been out each evening with the track men, founding them into shape will ac company the team to Salem Saturday. Rube is an ex-track man and has been drilling the boys on the fine points of the work. Francis Boyce, William Johnson and A rthur John- on > are out each evening practicing faithfully on the track for the track meet to be held commencement week. These three boys will compete | against each other and all seem tp have an equal chance of winning. 'Do not miss the class day field spot ts, for there will be plenty of good live ra c e s.. SE N IO R NOTES F,d Gilbeau has the honor of standing at the head of the boys’ division in the class. Dr. Hailman, eyespecialist, examined 463 pupils for eye troubles, but that with a little care all trouble would soon be cured. ' One pupil in our class had no ¿symptoms of eye trouble. The Seniors took their examinations last week fin ishing Friday. T h e y are now working on their play and finishing their industrial work. Katherine'Reed stands' first ini thé class and Mamie Frisk sécônd. The former is a nurse, the-lattpr- will graduate in home 'economics.' Alicia Kimball, who hàs been ill for th e ' past few weeks, went home on Wednesday. Alicia stood sec ond in.the class in the academic department and-.no doqbt would have retained the place if She had not; become: sick. It, is hoped that she will speedily re turn next fall.
