TH E CHEMAWA AMERICAN PAGE 4 CH EM AW A H OLD3 OREGON N IN E TO 6 TO 2 W ilson, for Oregon, Bettles, for Chemawa, Strike Out 10 Men Each When Medley slammed one of Bettle’s fast ones over the right-fielder’s head in the fifth inning for a home-run and scored Wilson and Grebe ahead of him, he sewed up the game for the University of Oregon against Chemawa on the home field last Saturday afternoon. The final score was 6 to 2. Oregon scored the first two runs of the game in the second inning on Steer’s single and Sheely’s circuit which took a crazy bounce over Kipp’s head. Che- mawa made one tally in the fifth on Bettle’s double and Crane’s single, and in the eighth when Dunton threw to third, trying to catch Crane who was at tempting to steal. Wilson held Chemawa to five hits and struck out 10 men. Bettles, the little Chemawa Southpaw, also fan ned 10. Bill Steers kept up the batting streak he in augurated against Willamette university and bagged three hits out of four times at bat. This gives him eight hits out of nine times at bat for the two games. Chemaw’a will play the University of Oregon a re turn game next Saturday in Eugene. Time of game 2 hours. Umpire, Bent. P U P IL S ’ ITEMS Mrs. Teabo spent the week-end at her home in Grand Ronde. Mr. Bent and Mr. Hauser visited the barracks at Vancouver on Thursday. The Excelsiors held a special meeting in the Brewer Hall sitting room last week. Mr. James Gray of Klamath Agency visited his daughter Betsey on Friday. The prevocational sewing-room girls have started on D company’s white uniforms. Joe Bettles is the captain of the track team and he takes real interest in his men. Mr. Pendergrass, wife and son, departed for their new home in Montana on Sunday. The gardeners are plowing the piece of land back of the school building for carrots and other garden crops. As there was no coal on Thursday the morning de tail of tailors did a little cleaning in their shop instead of their regular work. The sixth grade B division girls and boys went for a walk on Thursday afternoon at 3 o’clock to get ma terial for com position, work. Eva and Benjamin Peratrovich left for their home in Alaska on Thursday night. They expect to return as soon as their mother is better. Mr. Blessing gives the sixth grade boys very inter esting lessons on different parts and names of the big engine over at the power plant. Mr. Bent took the B division school girls out for a nice long walk last Monday. The girls enjoy these hikes as much as they do their gym work. The girls have been given the grounds between the hospital and the school building for a play ground. This is certainly a fine thing and they surely enjoy it. Mr. Bent, our disciplinarian, spent a day at the Vancouver barracks watching the soldiers drill and received a lot of pointers on drilling. These will be followed as closely as possible at this school. Some time ago the Brewer Hall team beat the Mitch ell Hall team by a score of 6-4. They also beat them in football and basketball and are going to do what they can in winning the next baseball game. The boys who are trying-out for the track team prac tice every afternoon after school. We are looking for ward for a good track team this year. The boys are trying hard and with earnest and constant training there will no doubt be a good team.
