A processional m arch by th e school band, followed w ith a song, “ See, A m id th e W in te r’s S n o w ,” rendered by th e en tire school, w ere th e opening num bers. C arrie A nderson, in h er usual ch arm in g m an n er, recited “ H ow S an ta C laus C a m e.” A m otion song by eig h t little girls dressed in w h ite w as a very p re tty num ber. A recitation, “ A C hristm as W is h ,” given by T h elm a O rsen was well received. She evidenced good d rillin g , her delivery being especially good, the selection was p atrio tic and well chosen. A th en Sim m ons also gave a recitatio n , “ T h e G lad E v a n g e l,” in h is'earn est m a n ner. A n um ber by th e ban d , “ A lita ” (W ild F lo w e r), charm ed the audience. T en sm aller boys of the six th grade appeared dressed u p as so m any C hinam en, w ith their pig tails an d la u n d ry bags over th e ir shoulders, sang a num ber, “ W e d o n ’t H avee any Clism as T im e, ” w hich evoked m uch applause. T h e exercise, “ T h e Plan th a t F a ile d ,” by E dw in R ousselle and E lm er T h er- ria u lt w as a featu re of th e evening. T hese boys ca r ried out th eir p arts well and held the audience th ro u g h out. T h e display of m echanical toys by H en ry C a m p bell and seven o th ers w as a novel n um ber and m uch enjoyed. T h e closing n u m b er consisted of a song by th e school, en titled “ Calm on the L isten in g E ar of N ig h t,” follow ed by a m arch, “ M ajestic B a n d .” T h e au d ito riu m was filled w ith C hem aw a stu d en ts, em ployes and visitors. T h e follow ing is th e program in full: All five of the s tu d e n ts’ q u a rte rs contained C h rist m as trees on w hich were h u n g th e gifts. M cBride H all g irls distrib u ted th e ir presents to each other after th e e n tertain m en t on C hristm as eve, w hile in each of th e other build in g s the d istrib u tio n took place before b reakfast on C hristm as m orn. E special effort was p u t fo rth by th e house m others and pupils of each b u ild in g to ren d er th e occasion a happy one and th a t th ey succeeded was certain ly evidenced by th e sm iling faces and good cheer on th e p art of all. A happier lot of people th a n those at C hem aw a could not be found. T hese songs, so b e a u ti fully ren d ered, were in sp irin g to the m any listeners and gave a sense of joy and peace to all. H O LID A Y DECORATIONS M uch in terest was m anifested by all at C hem aw a in d eco ratin g th e various q u arte rs, school room s and d in in g hall for th e C hristm as holidays. T h e tru e C h rist m as sp irit prevailed and a happier lot of stu d e n ts could not be found. E ven th e little ones decorated th eir dorm itories, and m uch o rg in ality and good taste was displayed everyw here. GIFTS FOR ALL As usual on C hristm as m orn in g th e school band played th ro u g h o u t th e cam pus, v isiting all of the b u ild in g s accom panied by crow ds of stu d en ts. S tir rin g pieces w ere rendered. TH E D IN N E R M uch preparation had been m ade for th e C hristm as d in n e r, and both th e s tu d e n ts’ d in in g hall and the (Continued on page 2)
