W estley, our popular gard en er and h o rtic u ltu r ist, w ho has been off on a leave of absence, retu rn ed to his duties on S atu rd ay . A goodly force of boys are at work today securing C hristm as trees and o th er greenery w ith w hich to dec orate the q u arte rs and o th er places. P reparatio n s have been m ade for the clearin g of the tw o tim ber lots at Chem aw a, th u s en ab lin g 65 more acres of tillable land to be added to the school farm . T he boys’ second basketball team will travel to R ickreall, on F riday n ight by autom obile and play the athletic club of th a t place. T h e first team will play th e stro n g Silverton team at Silverton on the sam e eve n ing. T h e new 50,000 gallon fuel oil reservoir is rapidly filling up since the installation of a 12-horse pow er steam boiler at th e siding, w hich is used to heat the oil in the car and th u s enable it to ru n in to th e pipes m ore freely. M rs. R isser has resigned her position of teacher at Chem aw a, to accept th e position of chief clerk in the S tate A g ricu ltu ral E xtension Service, C olum bia, Mis souri. She has m ade m any friends at C hem aw a who rejoice w ith her in th is prom otion. Boiler num ber th ree has been unable to w ithstand the co n tin u o u s strain given it th is fall and has gone out of com m ission. T h is leaves two boilers for p res ent use. N um ber four will be ready for use, how ever, w ithin a few days. In the m eantim e, the lau n d ry will ru n about half of the tim e. Miss T ay lo r and th e Division A vocational class of dom estic science girls gave a luncheon on T h u rsd ay last, with S upt. and Mrs. H all, Mrs. Risser, Mrs. Mc- Crosson, Mrs. E stabrook, Miss W hite, Miss M itchell, Miss F lin t, and M r. and Mrs. Ja q u in s, as guests. Leona John and Rose Sim m ons acted as hostesses, w hile L ydia Bauer and E lizabeth R einville did the w aiting. T h e g irls who took part in the p rep aratio n of the meal were S arah Blodgett, Bertha G rim es, Ju lia Mills, Julia Gromoff, C atherine W ilder, R uth Mc- N ickle, V eltha F razier, M arina N elson. T h is lu n c h eon, well cooked and so d ain tily and properly served, was given as a dem onstration and not only was it of practical in stru ctio n to the girls, but was also an e n PAG E 3 joyable affair th ro u g h o u t. T h e reception and dining room s w ere very artistically decorated w ith festoons of fir interw oven w ith strin g s of holly berries and po p corn. T h e recesses w ere banked w ith ferns and mosses. A small C hristm as tree adorned one corner of th e dining-room . T h is function was a p retty op en in g of the holiday season and th e guests w ere very appreciative.
