24 THE CHEM AW A AM ERICAN ATHLETICS B R IE F SUMMING U P BY MR. SM ITH, Disciplinarian The football players are fast rounding into form, through the careful coaching of Mr. Hauser. He has succeeded in instilling a great deal of real football spirit into the players, which in itself will be of great value in contributing to the success of the team. The old players are showing up better this year. Of these players, Downie, at quarter, is the life of the team; Paul, at center, Fields, left guard, Peratrovich, right tackle, Lane, right end, Jim, left end, Fder, full, are sure of holding their places. McMeel, right guard, Hodge, left tackle, LaRose, right half, and Watts, left half, are showing good form, but as yet are not sure of their places. The second team is showing a great deal of “ Pep” this year and will make every man in the first team extend himself in order to hold his place. Bettles, quarter back is very fast will bear watching all the time. Fleury, left half, is very aggressive and is at his best, on defense. Talbot, Lewis, Lamebull, Tatshoma, Johnson, Hobucket, Jackson and Anderson, will make a strong second team. The following schedule has been arranged: Oci. 17, Newberg High, ai Chemawa; Oct. 24, Multnomah Second, at Chemawa, Oct. 31, Albany College, at Albany; Nov. 7, O. A. C. Freshman, at Corvallis; Nov. 14, Pacific College, at Newberg; Nov. 21, Pacific University, at Chemawa; Nov. 26, Willamette University, [not definite] at Salem. T H E R E ARE TWO SID E S A LW AYS Perhaps your pay isn’t highly luxurious; Maybe your task’s neither easy nor light; E ’en though your life is a trifle penurious. Still—are you sure that you’ve always been right? Have you been fair to the man who must stand for you? Have you been honest and square to the jot? Isn’t indifference often delaying you? Hasn’t your gossiping hurt him a lot? While you are casting up grievances various, Hasn’t he also a grievance or two? Do you not make his work mighty precarious Simply because of the things that you do? Chieftains there are who are wrong in their attitude, Greedy and selfish and crazy for pelf; But—have YOU really shown fairness and gratitude?
