G e n t l e m e n : W e certainly are very m uch pleased to see the catalogue issued by the Salem In d ian School, Chem aw a, O re., w hich you were good enough to send to us, as m entioned in your letter of Septem ber 29th. T h e catalogue is certainly very interesting, both because it is printed by In d ian s, and because they have really executed quite a nice appearing job. Most people w ould have th o u g h t it necessary to have p rin ted the w hole job on coated paper and th u s, to a certain ex ten t, w ould have lost considerable of th e in terestin g character of the catalogue. By in terleav ing w ith “ stra tln n o re ” it has helped o u t the character of th e book w onderfully. W e have often tried to get people to do th is because it really is desirable and certainly has no opjections w hatever, unless it is th e m a t ter of price, and th is should not alw ays be th e consideration w hen a good job is w anted. W e note, too, w ith pleasure th a t they h a \e used R hododendron cover for the cover, and we surely are well represented in the book. Should it so happen th a t you care to express to M r. G eorge W rig h t, Com m issioner to the Five Civilized T ribes; all pay m ents and procedure under these regulations for Creek paym ents to be after consultation and in co-operation w ith Judge R. C. A llen, tribal attorney for th e Creek N ation of Indians; the Chickasaw paym ent to be m ade by S u p erin ten d en t Dana H . Kelsey after consultation and in co operation w ith H on. Reford Bond, tribal attorney’ for the Chickasaw N ation of In d ian s; and the Cherokee paym ent to be m ade by S u perin ten d en t Kelsey after consultation and in co-operation w ith H on. H . Teehee, probate atro rn ev for th e Cherokee N ation of Indians. Com m issioner Sells has also directed S u p erin ten d en t Kelsey to detail the Field C lerks of th e Five Civilized T ribes to points w here these pay m ents will reach the In d ian s, th a t th e In d ian s receiving this money may be fully protected from every im m oral or other influence w hich m ight result in th eir being defrauded or over-reached in any way.
