KQDQ 1320 AM The Great Lane County Shootout No, it's not a repeat of a locally weritien and recently produced play. Neither is it a duel of any land. In fact, it’s a cooperative ef fort to bring the film and video industry to Lane County. The Shootout refers to an effort to photograph Lane County in all its best aspects in order to have on file thousands of photos for per spective film and video producers who might come here to shoot their works. Catherine Lauris, current Presi dent of the Oregon Production Arts Network (OPAN), sponsor of the event, explained that the Shootout is being organized by this group in order to help the County and the State attract the film, video and recording indus tries here. It is a definite economic development tool. The way producers choose areas is largely based on how it is sold to them. And a bank of dides available for them to peruse is the best way to sell the county, says activist Lauris. The State De partmart of Economic Develop ment liked the idea of a slide bank so well, they are encouraging other counties to imitate Lane in their efforts to enlist photograph ers to help in the effort. On June 15, whoever has a 35-mm camera is eligible to join the group who will be spreading out all over the county. There is a free training seminar on how to shoot location shots on June 12. It will be held in the Jacobs Com munity Room of the Hult Center at 7 pm. On Saturday, the 15th, every one will meet at The Atrium and be given film and a T-Shirt. Log sheets will also be distributed so that information regarding the ex act location of the shot can be re corded. Photographers who regis ter early will have their first choice as to where in the County they want to go. (See Registration Form next to this article.) Film processing will be done at no cost to the photographers. It is being donated by Evergreen Him Ser vices. "OPAN is committed to eco nomic development and the em ployment of local artists and tech nicians," says their information sheet. They will keep photograph ers' names attached to photo graphs at all times. They will be used as a location file and for pro motional activities sponsored by OPAN. The State will use them only for a location file, and they will eventually become the pro perty of the Lane County Mu scum. Photographers will be notified if their photographs are sent to any out-of-state film producers. OP AN asks that all rights to the photographs be assigned to them. Next to this article is a regis tration form. Those forms receiv ed first will have first choice of areas in which to shoot. Those participating in the Shootout will also receive two vouchers for ad mission to a celebration with refreshments the night of the 15th. Directed by Ed Ragozzino, Fiddler opens July 19 at the Hult Center for the Performing Arts in Eugene. Ticket prices range from $6 to $16.50. First produced on Broadway in 1964, Fiddler on the Roof is based on stories by Sholem Aleichem. The show dramatizes the bitter sweet life of a Jewish family headed by Tevye, a milkman—in a Russian village just before the Bolshevik revolution. Among the show's best known songs are 'Tradition," "If I Were a Rich Man," and "Do You Love Me?" Nathan Cammack is music di rector of the Eugene Festival pro duction, Jerry Williams the set de signer, and Nicola Foster the chor eographer. Arnold Laferty will play Tevye. Performances are scheduled daily, except Monday, July 19 through August 13. Tickets pur chased by June 23 will be dis counted from $1 to $2.50, depend ing on day and price.
