It is open from noon •( to 5 pm Tues.-Sat. and there is no admission cost. They have just opened a new gift shop so you can even combine Christmas shopping with browsing. On display now (and also for sale) are Linda Vorobik's fine line drawings AT of mostly rare Oregon plants, including the wayside aster whicn was thought to be extinct but was recently discovered at the Mt. Pisgah Ar boretum. Linda, a biologist, combines scientific knowledge and artistic abili ty in a beautiful and subtle way. Her science/art has illustrated such books as Threatened and Endangered Vascular Plants of Oregon: An illustrated Guide published by the USDI Fish and Wildlife Service (free), among others. She is active in the Native Plant Society of Oregon. We visited the gift shop and learned from staff about their travel ing exhibits, field tours (to archeological sites), workshops for children (on such topics as Animal Movements and Plant Speci men Mounting) and a film series coming up. For sale are fossils, jewelry, books and pamphlets, note cards and color photographs. It is hoped the store will bring in funds for the museum (which they severely lack). The museum is the official depository for all ar cheolgical discoveries in the whole state. It's your heritage. Take an afternoon off and enjoy a visit.
